Yes they can spray or skirt venom, to a distance of about 60cm

I have been squirted while trying to get a big boy into a plastic bag. It would have gone about 45 cm. Almost hit me in the face lol.

Oh and children aren't told to "kill" toads, but like stated collect them and hand them over to people in charge of humanly disposing of them. There was a campaign going on in the Northern Territory where pubs would swap a live toad for a beer...fantastic idea!

Hey again people,
Got plenty of money for Christmas and was thinking of a new herp. My local exotic store has a Cane Toad about 6" long for £20 and I'm contemplating getting it. I saw a huge adult one in the store earlier this year and have been fascinated since.

Obviously, I've done some research, but the recommended tank size varies and I'm not sure what kind of precautions to take concerning their poisonous nature.

Any help appreciated,
Thanks,
Paul

theyre invasive in my neighborhood..... but i dont really see them anymore

good thing......

if I lived in Australia that is a different story as you have lots native small mammals only found there that they will eat.
Yeah mate......They've destroyed many, many species of frogs, snakes, lizards and other wildlife. There is nothing over here that can eat them to keep under control. Their eggs are poisonous, the tadpoles are & the adults & young of cause......Australia's No. 1 pest......

I think there's only one type of snake that can eat them...no other animal???

Some pics.....not mine....
The crocs had bellies full of toads....

The Sawshell turtle (Elseya latisternum) can eat the tadpoles without getting sick, but no other turtle. And some birds have managed to find a way to eat the gut sack out of them by flipping them on theire backs and going through the mouth through to the belly.

I guess there is one good use of them.

cane toads... funnest animal ever... to kill...

I can think of 10 awesome ways to kill them.

Mower
air rifle
High caliber rifle (.270 and up)
Low caliber rifle
fireworks
cars
golf club
golf club
spear
boot

pretty much every method is humane..... kinda, maybe kicking them around isn't that humane, but that's when they're in my way, I don;t really kill them by kicking them.

AND WHY I KILL THEM! (apart from the obvious environmental issues)

because where I live there is so many of them that if I walk 30M in a straight line in the grass at night, I kick at least 8 cane toads (can't see them).... and they're gross.

The gov. campains call for the kids/adults to catch the Toads.
They hand out gloves, bags etc.....

They are then dropped at a collection point where they are taken away and placed into freezers.
The Toads slowly cool down & die. They don't even know what's happening to them.

I luv animals & agree that even these ugglies should be disposed of properley.
That's why we kill them as quickly as possible......lol......;)

you should convince those guys to sell them to people in europe and North america for a modest price it would really be profitable. i'd personally love to have a cane toad i think they are awesome(where they are native)
