Yeah - I know - My version was the Catch and Kill - old school Sport Fishing version. But my point was at least the shark has a more sporting chance that if you shot it with a shot-gun.

But your right for Catch and Release - which is the modern ethical approach, to a shark friendly version of Shark Sport Fishing. Which is truthfully what I prefer to see & hear of people doing when they're fishing for sharks.

i think you guys made a wrong assumption.............

ime heres how it works.....go fishing and catch a big dangerous fish ( yes 400 pound halibut are dangerous).....when it gets tired you get it alongside the boat.....at this point you either release it or keep it.

to release it normally you lean way over the rail and try to cut the shank of the hook with cable cutters and try not to get hurt or you shoot it ...safest way is a 12 GA bang stick. note from the wound it was shot at point blank range..........

you should never bring 200 lb PLUS monster into the cockpit of a boat unless it is very dead......

this was a rod and reel fish killed once it was at the boat IMO...still a waste of a nice shark:(

:iagree:

And i think it was quite immature to call out publicly, so everone as was stated could share their opinions before you found out what and why..

If it truly was your intention to not have this person flamed you would have in my opinion had enough respect to PM first :(

This site is deteriorating more and more by childishness like this :( I visit my favorite site "MFK" less and less each day do to this kind of action :( Not that my own the last couple days are any better...

Plus it seems your user name Waterbaby is in red.. :( And now that really saddens me.:(

You know what is funnier :D 03/21/2006 !!!! That was the last time she has logged in that is recent !!!

I think you should email her:) Chances are she'll NEVER read this :)

In this day and age, we have access to plenty of cheap food. Eating the shark doesn't make it right. Sharks are on the decline, and more so because of crap like that. I enjoy fishing, but release almost everything I catch.

actually on the aids subject i bleieve it was passed on to humans when they needed blood and took it from monkeys for blood transfusions during operations

Just about everything has been said. I don't see a problem bringing it up if it bothers you other than she likely doesn't visit mfk anymore. But I will agree. Catch and release is best. I like programs that are actually having tournaments for fisherman to catch sharks, tag them and then release them. Science and fishing all in one..

But I agree a waste for a mount. The mount doesn't even look like the shark she caught.. lol

I agree. And though some of you may swear that I wanted to flame her, LOL, that was not the intent by this at all, and at no point have I. And just as an FYI since this has come up a few times - I had already sent her a pm and would have sent her an e-mail had she not "opted not to receive e-mails". And whether or not she see's this or ever responds, does not truely matter, the intent of this was to call attention to a real issue which is devistating populations world wide (No, not just casual fishing), and is too often ignored simply because sharks are labeled "Killers" and "Mindless man eaters" - which is not the case, and a huge misconseption we fight to dispel each and every day.

Sharks are killed by the MILLIONS each year, through by-catch, poaching, finning, and various other acts of careless dissregard. Their populations are declining and some species are paying the ultimate price of being critically endangered and hunted. This is a shame, and there are many things we can do to stop this. Organizations world wide spend countless hours and private (out-of-pocket) funds to help protect and preserve these amazing animals, as well as educate the public, and seek out those who take life maliciously. It always has been, and will most likely always continue to be a never ending battle, but though the battle may rage on, the more advocates that take a stand and are proactive, the more significant change will be. What many never stop to consider, is that sharks are vital to the ocean's balance and without them, without any significant species, ecosystems falter and others suffer. It is a domino effect. Sport fishing for these animals has long since been popular, but is now much more regulated, and restrictive, and strives to preserve life, or consume life that is taken. There is no need for senseless waste, as where there is one allowed, there are many more to follow. That is not the path we want to be on. Though one person and one shark may seem insignificant to many, it is not the specific number, but rather the impact on others to which it can yield, the insight and passion it can produce. One person can affect many.. And many... Can enforce change.

I have a deer head trophy on my wall! IT IS NO different!

I dont see a problem. Maybe they ate it. ...lol

Not trying to start flames here but its nothing the same hopefully. Did you eat the deer?? If not then yes really ya just as bad as the chick killing the shark, ya just lucky we arent on some deer lovers site.

A shark is one thing but what is the point of a deer head on the wall?? Wow you killed some grass eating animal who would have run away the second it saw you. I do get it takes some skill but its not exactly tough is it. Bit girly really.

There is also the fact Sharks like hammerheads are apex preds and breed alot slower then deer so are kinda more important. Kinda, i know we should say one animal is more valuable then another but its unfortunately true.
