tiger shovelnose catfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since he posted about a TSN in a TSN thread, stating that he had HIS in a 135 for 3 years, you would think that is what type he meant. If not, then he shouldn't have posted about it.

Just saying. That is why.

finally someone that understands me! preach it sister! lol :D

I think the rudest thing I have done this whole thread was this:
To poor advice saying 100g was enough. From janson.

I can't speak for other people, but to the offended, come on. Really? We are just going to sit here and let people give out the wrong advice?

Perhaps some people were a tad rude, but it didn't really go past the point of laughing or accusing of trolling. Unless I missed something somewhere.

Last time I checked, this is not arrogant (an attitude of superiority manifested in an overbearing manner or in presumptuous claims or assumptions). Laughing does not = arrogance.

i understand where your coming from with this but if you read what you quoted me on then you would have understood where i was coming from
hence the whole its a TSN its not a TSN issue... also even if it isnt a TSN even smaller species of shovel nose cat fish get up to 18"+ full grown &
being kept in a 135g where most stock dimensions being around 18" wide the fish cant even turn, so regardless of what species of shovel nose cat fish
it is being kept in a 135g for "3 years" is ..... you get the point or so i hope you do... it's like this; what would you say to someone who is keeping or kept
a ray in a 135g for 3 years knowing that the fish will out grow that tank in a matter of time? but that person doesn't see anything wrong with that and gives
advice to other people saying it should be okay to house the fish in a 100g when the fish is around 12"+? does that seem right to you? its not about us admitting
we're wrong or whose right we are on this forum for the love of our fish keeping hobby & we dont like to see/hear fish being neglected and or improperly cared
for because that person was to lazy to research the species of fish he has.... its like a 10 year old going out to buy a arapima for his 60g tank not knowing or
doing any research about the fish before purchasing it, its ridiculous....
I understand what you are saying, but have you ever raised other shovel noses stated? Do you really understand the growth rate of the stated shovel noses? Did Jason ever mentioned the dimensions of the tank he was keeping his "TSN" in? You assume that his tank was "standard" size tank with the dimensions 6'x18'', maybe it was 4.5'x3'x1.5'. There are "custom made" tanks (Just saying).

How long do you really think it'll take a TSN to 28''? If you knew, TSN's DO grow a lot slower then RTC (I'm just saying)Have you owned one? I've owned 4 of them. As stated above this, a custom tank can be made....or can they be made?

Oh, By the way, I like how you told people in your peeper thread that you keep your RTC in a 75 gal tank. I will assume that you are keeping in in a 55gal tank. Do to your cat being 8'' and it looks like there is a 4'' space from his/her nose to the back of the tank.

^lol thats a grow out tank she's having a pond built yo. totally different situation from keeping a catfish in a 135g for 3 years and have a juvi in a 75g grow out.

ive seen a lima which is a smaller species of shovel nose cat fish grow to 15"-16" or around at 2 & 1/2 years at being fed 2x a week/once daily...

as for the tank size issue even if it was a custom tank its small no matter how u look at it... honestly i wouldnt keep anything above 9" in a 135g
unless i really had to like in a state of emergency...

You have seen, but I've own count less Limas man, and I actually had one pushing 22''. 8 years it took to get it that size. I dabbled with catfish before and I know there growth rate. All I'm saying is, assumptions, jumping to conclusions, quick to flame isn't the type of attitude that is needed here. Get all the information needed and then help out. Easy yes? As for you keeping anything above 9'' in a 135gal, that's all you.

As for muffy goes, I can respect that she loves catfishes and is so passionate about them. But, all you can do is educate the uneducated.

Yes I have him in a 75 gallon grow out, and he is going in a 314 gallon within a month. After that, a pond as stated.

The only reason I didn't assume his tank was a custom tank is because when I said this:
"Standard 135g is 72x18x24. The TSN should be about 12-15" long at one year on average" (which goes along with what you are saying), nothing else was said by janson other than "I totally agree with you...." in response to aaronb. The worst thing janson has done if you can call it that is suggesting 100gallon tank, which the OP can obviously read around easily. His TSN may not have had an ideal life, but nothing we can do about that.

I still think other people could have been nicer, but I can easily say that I was not being arrogant myself as aaronb is claiming. Maybe he wasn't talking to me. Either way, I have no hard feelings. Just want to clear things up. Like you say, I love my catfish. A lot.

wow way to small of a tank i have a 40 gallon for my 10 inch clown knife but building a bigger home ur gonna stress that fish out putting decorations is going to take up space that fish needs for a fish that big right now he needs 100 gallon minimum but ur gonna need to go bigger if u plan on keeping him long term like 1000 gallon

im gonna stop arguing about this because whether or not we talk or argue about this its not gonna change anything unless the uneducated educates themselves and actually does some research & etc. as for the op get a bigger tank bro or give him to someone that can take proper care of it.

or if your gonna just keep it in that small tank & torture its better off being fatten up and eatin, i heard cat fish taste good... lol hahah
