for pangasius, it's oily to the touch... water wise i think still ok
seabass, very oily to the touch... and top layer of water there will be a flim of oil. and my coarse filter will have a layer of oily gunk
prawns - it comes deshelled. most econmical. those with shell includes head and guts
anchovy and yellow tail scad (gutted). i cut it up but throw all in, including head
oysters are much worse than mussels when come to making the water cloudy

all does goes away fast with the filter

Ahh i never touches it with my skin as i always uses medical gloves when handling frozen fish food as i hate the stench it leaves on your fingers

I buy this machrobrachium frozen with shell, pinchers and all at an asian grocerystore. I think it is 450g per package for like 3usd my rays love them.

Recently, we have someone selling this but at sgd 13 per kg. About 10usd

I am thinking if I should try it.

What I do is buy live ghost shrimp on a weekly basis, about usd 5 for 50g estimated

So far anchovy are the cheapest at usd 4 per kg

Cant remember what i paid for 0.8kg of anchovy but i think it was about 6 usd or something like that. Gutted and beheaded. The rays loved that to.

Both middle and bottom right on the last pic is anchovy. I usually buy the middle one as they are perfect size to break in halv and feed to the smaller rays. The large rays swollows them whole. They are not even 2" per fish so. The bigger ones are prob 3-4"

Been thinking of buying the spiny eels and baby squid to try em out.

the anchovy i bought yesterday are about 2-3 inches in size and i just cut in half and throw it in...

i am now thinking about trying other fishes like mackerel or barracuda

do you think it is a must to gut them? i am so lazy to gut them...

i tried squid rings and silverfish too but the issue is some of the pieces will float

for baby squid, you may want to remove the ink portion and centre bone... i used to do it just so the water will be cleaner

Im would not gut them. I think i read in some thread about this subject to get the full nutritional value of the fish you feed with the guts have to be there.

I know for a fact that i can buy the larger anchovis and feed to my mature rays as the smallest one is 38cm wd and largest a bit over 50cm wd. As for my pups im growing out i try to feed them a staple on pellets then as extra treats i feed herring, mussels, the machrobrachium shrimps i buy and earthworms.

The large rays i feed mainly frozen and occational pellets when im lazy.

My Aros absolutely love frozen ghost shrimp -- the only (possible) issue is that LFS advised me to cut their heads off (something along the lines of possibility of toxins accumulating there), which takes a long time with how small they are -- I pay my daughter or the maid to cut off the heads and re-freeze after dousing with a bit of vitamin solution.

Also even though they're not very big I (probably over) worry about the spikes getting caught in digestive tract or stomach. But I know others don't take off the heads (just like in nature) and apparently don't have any issues. What about you Tobias do you feed whole or cut off the heads of machrobrachium shrimps?
