Tips and advice on first rays

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
And is there any catfish that go well with stingrays? I would like something to clean up extra food and add a little more awe to the tank. TSN has been sold to a local keeper with a 375 gal tank just some everyone knows.
I kept tigrinus and megaladoris irwini with mine

I have some oxydoras, the striped Raphael's, but I don't know if they would 1. Puncture the rays or 2. Rays would try to eat and choke on them. But arent tigrinus just as active as TSN? Or no?

Kinda active. A megaladoris is a giant version of your striped rapheals so it would be fine

They nipped on his fins slowly till they were raw, then might have more died from infection from that, but definitely found them munching on him in the morning.

I've got 2 striped raphaels with my rays and some spotted pictus.

spotfin spotfin how big are your rays and catfish? And how big is your tank? I would really like to keep 4 line pictus with mine.

why are you so persistent on getting rays for your 125 gallon? you asked for advise, we said get a bigger tank and don't get motoros. So many of your questions can be answered by using the search bar on this thread. Motoro will hit 12" disk quickly then slow down, I would say around 12" in a year (thoughts?) then expect slower growth. Like I said this is disk size, add in their tail you have around a 2ft long fish in a 2ft wide tank. I say sell your stock, don't buy motoros get a bigger tank and go with pearl rays. you are right an 8x3x2 is a 360 gallon, doesn't make it impossible to come buy but wait until you are in a position in which you need a big tank. That's when it hits you how difficult they actually are to get. Good luck to you

Sorry man, I get what you mean I really do, but I'm pretty sure I can keep two small motoros healthy for 2 months in a 125, as I am committed to upgrading to a larger tank. And I've done enough research to realize the smaller rays are easier to keep due to size, but are much harder to get feeding, acclimate, and breed. Motoros, from what I have found, are much more forgiving on water parameters, feeding, and breeding. Yes, everyone, i am selling off my stock, I've sold a few already now so that's not going to be an issue. What makes everyone else so much better to keep rays but I can't? Small rays in a big, not huge, tank will be perfectly healthy for just 2 months until they are in a huge tank that I will have to spot feed them in.
