Yes he does but what's clean water without space for a fish to move around? Nothing.LOL, with the media I have for one of my tanks, I can comfortably say I wouldn't be scared to house 10 rays at 18" - 22" in that tank. If I did a 450gal sump for his size tank, then mine would be an 8k gal sump for that one setup lol.
What I was trying to get at is other than the adequate width for the rays when they are bigger, he would need a filtration system enough to handle the bioload of his rays.
I believe that if op is newish to fish keeping and trying to cheap out on the fish then he certainly won't want to spend more money on the right food and meds to get the Rays established than he spent on the Rays.I'm pretty sureJK47 posted a beast a while back. He can tell you how much fun it would be to fit her in a 3' width.

Bigger Tank and post a add on a local buy and sell and sell off all your filters and start researching sump filter systems.
Rinse and Repeat
- big tank
- big sump/bio media
- big water changes
- feed twice daily
- heater guard
- high oxygen content
- hardy rays (blacks or motoro)
- KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid)
Truthfully, my first ray ever was a black diamond from vamptrev. Tank was a modest 120 gallon (4' x 2') with 3x AC110 packed to the max with ceramic rings. I did 2x 50% wc weekly. Now my rays are about to go into a 270 (6' x 3') with a 75 gallon sump. The 270 will hold my rays for another year and then I'll have to upgrade again.
So my rays will be fine during the first 2 months in my 125 then I take it? Btw I think it's a 150, which is a little more water dilution, but other than that, if tig phish had his in a 120 for that long, mine will be fine. Still my water is pristine clean right now and always is, ample filtration, I've sold almost all the stock so far as well, and bigger tank is no problem (TAX REFUND PRESENT). Also, I have 4 airlines going into tank with one going to a sponge filter in the tank as well, and a spray bar that agitates the top water too.I think you can take heater guard out since if there is a sump should be in there anyways. But other than that you killed it lol
