To all younger fish keepers. 25 and under

i do but they dont understand

I'm 16 today, and i don't take any crap about my fish. My cousins sometimes get on me about this site, but the fish themselves, most like them.

I don't really talk all about it at school, so most are surprised to see them. No one really sees me as one who would have a "nerdy" hobby such as fishkeeping. Most who don't know me, think of me as a dumb, womanizing stoner. And what the hell, if they want to underestimate me, fine. My "nerdy" fishkeeping hobby is offset by my fourwheeling, and football, freestyling, "cool" hobbies.

Who cares what people think about your hobbies?

PS: the girls in my school like my bichirs ;)

 This guy knows what's up.

I would say it's considered fairly nerdy. Especially for a highschooler, we're supposed to be out getting tail and getting wasted and whatnot.

I have time for all that, as well as water changes. :D

Crikey, maybe for goldfish, lol. But owning fish like Barramundi sorta goes hand in hand with tuff. If you own fish liek Barra, Murray cod, etc most the people here will think you are a keen fisherman.

Croikey mate, I wish i could get me a beaut of a murray cod around here.

:j/k: Man.

Some of the natives around here would get the same reaction, like bass, sunfish, bullheads, etc. Fish that people recognize. I think having one small tank would be perfectly normal around here and not "nerdy" but when you have several, it becomes "nerdy".

Then again, in some areas of the US, Socal in particular, i'd think it would be a more "normal" hobby.

Down here it is fair normal, and not considered nerdy, animal keeping here is really normal. 8D

Spose, we like animals alot 8D

If you think it's bad from your friends, wait until you get a bit older and get hitched and y have to hear that sh*t from your wife. And as for finding a woman who's into fish just as much as you are...good luck!
