Oh no. So sorry to hear about Juan:(

Thank you.

Ya I don't get it, all was fine when I went to bed. They was swimming together, rubbing all on each other.
Hotlipz gets along fine with her. Juan and Hotlipz are the same size....

So I attemped to introduce Juan and Toni last night. All was well when I went to bed, Toni even seemed to be taking a shine to him, saw her shimmy a couple times in front if him like she wanted to mate.

Wake up this morning and it seems something went terribly wrong overnight. Juan didn't make it.

Well that seals it, Toni can't be put in with or her Oscars, so far 5 attempts and she had said no to them all. But it seems like she is ok with Hotlipz so far. I guess she will be her forever tank mate now. No more trying to get her an Oscar tankmate.
That sucks. Sorry for your loss m8. Juan was one gorgeous oscar

That looks about right, she did look like a 10" fish.

You must have been keeping fish a few years if you can guess size like that. I didn't take her out of water or anything like that. She tends to sit on the bottom sulking during water changes, so was able to sneak in a tape measure under her outside the tank.

I tend to underestimate most times, but your oscar has that look about it that seemed like it was bigger than you were thinking. When you took pics of Juan next to the tape measure and mentioned the gt was about the same size... well as soon as I saw the gt and Oscar together I was figuring on about 10”. So more deductions based on facts.

But I have been suprised when I have had to move a fish and used a 5 gallon bucket and found the fish had to curl up to fit. Then l remembered my bucket was 11-1/2” across and realized these were not as little of fish as I thought.

So is it more common to give size with or without tail. I always thought it was without. Since not all tails are the same. Forktails for example, measure to the middle, to a tip. So I normally leave the tails off and measure to the end of actual tail muscle.
