Keeping them is illegal in many places. To encourage keeping them is criminally negligent.

We have members from all over the globe. There's an asian aro forum, a snakehead forum, and a piranha forum. These are places where members can exchange information and experiences. For the most part, the staff weed out the "lookin for a snakehead in CA" posts, and other overt illegal posts, and let the members living in SH legal countries to continue the threads. The same must hold true for pits. They're not illegal everywhere so, the exchange of information on their maintenance and possession is allowed.
For the record, I'm neither for nor against the keeping of pits. I'm against inhumane treatment to elicit fighting responses and the provoked/forced fighting of the breed. I've been attacked and scarred in 3 separate dog atacks in my life. One was a german shepherd, the 2nd was an alaskan malamute, and the last attack was from a rottweiler. Should I now advocate the banning of these breeds? The shepherd probably snapped at me because I was looking it right in the eyes (challenging). I was 7 and didn't know that shouldn't be done. The malamute took offence to me saying hello to it's owner by hitting him in the arm. Before we could calm this sled race trained dog down, he nailed me in both forearms and in the stomach. The rotti was a visitor at another friends house (in-laws dog). I didn't know he was there. By the time the dog confronted me I was too far from the gate to make it before the dog caught up to me and nailed me in the calf. Turns out my friend and his relatives (the dog's owner) had left for lunch and shopping and the rotti was simply protecting the property.

No offense but if you look at sable she doesn't look full pit, and you're other two are babys. I understand you defending the breed but you have little actual experiance with them if you're basing it on that. Puppy acts way different than a dog and many mental changes take place in that time.

Everyone of course thinks their breed of dog is the best. Different strokes for different folks.

ok i understand that.. i have been around pitt my hole life..
my nebighor had one that was 18 ( just put to sleep).. was a mush..
my friend james has 2 ... one like sable but bigger and the other is from the same kennel as my pup..and they both are scary looking... but are both mushes...
its how u rasie them. all the pitts with bad names are raised by people who think owning a pitt is cool...think they will have the baddest dong on the block...
and **** that bann on them.

and sable is pure pitt she was the runt of the litter...but shes full american staff....

and i have n been around the mean ones...(my brother junk yard is a 100 pound red nose and head is the size of a basketball...
she was raised to be mean ( like all the ones that give pitts bad reps)

but ask any person with a good home that has owned a pitt and they will tell you about them.... i had the puppy in the hair place i took my mom to get her hair done and they were all like o man shes gunna be mean.....and i hate that sterotype....but what can you do...

but please dont speak against them if u havent owned a pitt

That is understandable. I would not have any strong breed with children either, its just to much risk. Shoot even a little dog with young children is not a good idea. I had to drive my friend to the hospital to get stitches from a laberdoodle bite! hahaha.

You see, I live by Gary IN (formerly the murder capital of the US, so you see why I trust a pit more than people). I see all the "ghetto dogs" rotts, sheperds, pits, dobies... and the list goes on. I also see and read about fighting pits all the time and I hate to say it but those blood lines need to be lost. Pits are bred in a few different ways. One of the cheapest and easiest to aquire dogs are the game bred dogs. These dogs have had fighters in their blood line for many gens and many are still bred for fighting. My pit was not. She was bred as working/show type. There hasn't been a game bred dog in her line for as far back as I can go. And I don't know if this makes a difference, but who would put a couple high dollar dogs in a fight? An idiot(maybe wearing bling bling but I hate stereo types). And most of the mean pits come from homes run by idiots.

But I do understand that if they are not your cup of tea, then thats alright. But I just wish that this dog didn't get the rap it is getting. I have never had a more obedient, energetic, and loving dog than my pit. She is not aggressive twords animals or people and I don't think that is going to change. The grand kids from across the street come over to play with my little Raven and the worst she has done was licked one of them to death.

yes.. the work/show ''old family reds'' are the real pits.. the other short fat ones.. are known as bully'' they are the ugly ones that people look tuff...there are the backyard breeds( the ones you see for sale cheap and in kennels) and there are the blues which are kinda fake pitts...

read this .. its the history of real pitts( old family reds)

I have read that before. Pretty interesting. I would love one that looked all red like that, but I am happy with mine. I have a blue, but I wouldn't call it a fake pit. There were reds thrown fron the same litter. She might be a different color, but she is all APBT.

theres omehting about them i herd that there not pure... idk.. i personaly love the blues color.. but hate the body of the bully..the wide sholders and that fat head....

There was 6000 Dog attacks on people in the UK last year in the UK Pit Bulls have been clased under the Dangeros Dog act. This was passed 16 years ago. Under the Dangerous Dogs Act, it is illegal to own/sell/breed/give away/exchange pure bred dogs of the following breeds,

Pit bull terrier
Japanese Tosa
Dogo Argentino
Fila Braziliero
any other type of dog appearing to be or to have characteristics of a type bred for fighting.
If it is alleged that a dog is of a type which is prohibited it is presumed to be the case until the owner proves to the contrary. The owner can do this at his/her own expense.

Out of the 6000 atacks 5 were Pits. I to am a firm follower of it’s the way the dog brought up Ok Pit and Rockies have it in them a bit more but my Aunty Jack Russell is mean as hell. This is my son with my mates Dog Tie he is a Staffordshire Bull cross believe it or not yes a Mum was full Staff and Dad was a jack Russell Staff cross we is lovely and if you go on the link you can see my Tortoise chase him off. Havey, is right about the painting of a rosey picture. You can't talk pit bulls and forget or ignore the negative that has gotten to be the everyday with these dogs

Have you read this?

All right, guys.

There are good dogs, there are bad dogs. Most of which depends on the owner, some of which is genetically manifested.

Obviously, most MFK members are very responsible pet owners. Let them enjoy their pets and share experiences, be it Monsterfish or dogs. Your posts on potential dangers are important, valid, and have been noted. But they should not overshadow this thread, which might show the friendly side of this breed.

That pic of the blue you posted, that thing is a freak! Not all the blues look like that. I have heard a few times that dogs like that were outcrossed with mastifs or some other giant breed back in the line. Here is a pic of mine (my brothers actually) and she is nothing like the blue you posted. Her parents were a rednose and a blue, both were about 70lb pits. So they weren't small, but nothing like that whopper. These dogs can still walk through a door way without touching their legs on both sides. LOL
