I was on an Aussie website yesterday, and people already have had their fish destroyed because of this, they're following it pretty well.
It really sucks for all you awesome Austrailian people, I feel ya.

Just load up on Dingo's and pray for the Gov't officials to try and come in your house :)

I have a Lab and a Pitbull, and let me tell you, no unwanted person would make it in my house and out alive.

lol PITBULLS are band in Australia

Perth Cichlid Society Forum[/url] ]The full grey list can be viewed on http://www.brs.gov.au/ornamental , but includes amongst others most of the large American cichlids, all arowanas, bichirs, knifefish, stingrays, eels, koi & a number of large catfish & "exotics". In effect almost all large fish kept in the hobby today.

All Arowana's? What's their reasoning on banning native fish?

It will be a ban on non-native Arowanas, not Saratogas. Fairly Nanny-state on the Government, especially considering they introduced Tilapia into the Brisbane River to combat Mosquito problems even though our natives do a better job of it, but unfortunately there are a wealth of irresponsible twits who do release non-native fish into our water systems out there that are one of the reasons behind this move.

There really aren't that many fish being banned, just the real monsters (which are usually kept by experienced and dedicated fish keepers anyway..).

thats what is crap about it. a while back there were some geo. brazilliensis found in the Swan River. they had a hell sad about it obviously. it's these idiots that have ruined it for the hobbyists.

seriously, isn't it more effort to put a fish in an esky and take it to the river, than taking it to a fish store for $$ or store credit?

if anything they should make a license system, similar to those in-place for exotic reptiles. these systems seem to work as people who are willing to pay good money for beautiful specimens (like a DOVII) would never dream of throwing money away like that.

there is a big cihlid 'voice' in OZ

LETS BE HEARD!!!!:headbang2

Hi all, 1st post here and I would say the last 2 months or so, I have become fascinated by cichlids. Many of my favorites are Central American. I was going to get a 6x2x2 for my office and have guess what in there? And now, just when i have a new passion, after being oblivious to all things aquatic all these years, the chance to own these magnificent creatures will could be taken away. Needless to say I'm shattered. And I'm only a cichlid noob.

(P.S - Anyone have any nice Jag or Dovii fry they want to sell before Nov 7?)

Also, for all the Americans saying how bad this is: Sure it's not fantastic, but look at your waterways down south in Florida and Hawaii for example, you've got members on here netting Amphilophus sp., Salvini, Oscars, Parachromis sp., realistically your Government should be doing something about it.

yeah i can see where the government is coming from with wanting to pass these laws to keep our waterways free from foreign fish, but there needs to be exceptions as to who can own said species

also..... SERIOUSLY, KOI????

they would, and do, get nailed by our natives!!
