Yeah, barramundi are cool but get too big for most aquarists. Cichlids stay at a managable size. They also have nice colors, come in all kinds of shapes and sizes, and have awesome personality which carries a lot of weight with me. Another thing I love is the parental care they give their offspring.

Being able to eat another fish is cool but not at the top of my list. The bottom line is that there's nothing local in Austrailia that can replace Central/South American cichlids and it's going to suck so bad if they're banned. Period. :(


I ment in the wild if cichlids are released the barras would eat them even when the cichlid is fully grown
 
dunno bout that.

a full grown umbee or dovii could take down a barra. sure a barra could eat it whole... if it could catch it. umbees and dovii are pretty quick and agile. and have killer teeth

i dont think a dovii or umbee would even try to take down a decent size barramundi in the wild mate

That is true the probly win in a fight but a barra groes much bigger and are very good predators. they are also fast if they wanna be thier tails are so powerful. not tring to argue i like u from what ive read on this site u both have posted cuban & balton, im trying 2 find more excusses so cichlids arnt completly band.
