Tragedy, check your heaters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Really sorry to hear about what happened. I just checked my Stealth I had sitting under my tank and sure enough it is one that is on recall. Going to see if Petsmart will take it back or if I have to call the manufacture for my $ back.

Sorry for your lost..

"The heater shorts out and the fire starts in the cord causing the outlet to catch fire"

Will an extension cord with a trip circuit prevents this? If it will then it's a cheap insurance for you and your fish?

Vitaly was running a power strip.

That sucks! What a terrible ordeal. I'm always worrying about something like that happening in my tank. I mean, we submerge electrical devices in our tanks, and putting complete trust in the company to make sure this DOESN'T happen. I have two recalled stealths, as soon as I read about it, my heaters were unplugged and outta there, though I love them, I'm not risking it. Anyone know about a heater called the "jbj titanium heating system"? Just looks like a metal heater to me. Any bad experinces w/ metal heaters period? There are no plastic ones that come in the size I need(I have a 240gal). Fluval "e" looks good but can't find one big enough, and not sure the 300w is up to the task. I had a glass heater explode inside my tank. Thank god nothing happened, turtles didn't eat the glass, no fire, nothing else. But I've sworn off glass heaters. My 300w stealth heats my tank, but idk about the fluval "e" 300w(doesn't come larger from what I see). It's good that some of ur fish lived! Sue their ***es!!!! Get money, move, and start anew!:D

Petsmart took mine in with now receipt or packaging. They exchanged it for an aqueon pro which looks similiar to the stealth. I even had cash back from the trade in :grinno:.

Vitaly we wish you the best. So sorry to hear about what happened. One of my worst nightmares as a fish keeper.

The aqeon pro seems to be working just as well as the stealth :grinno:. It took a couple of days but my 180 is back up to temp and holding so far.

This heater tube was titanium.

:eek:No metal for me! Fluval e it is! Out of curiousity, does anyone know if the new stealth pros are safe? Seems like a lot of people have had good luck w/ the steath line, me included. Have they fixed the wiring, or just discontinuing the stealth line?

That's a horrific thing to have to come home from vacation to.

All I use are these damned heaters. What is everyone else doing? These are the best heaters petsmart here carries, aside from the recall. Part of me wants to order Jager's online but then I have to have ticking time bombs in my tank for another 4-5 days. If I decide to take these back I'll have all my tanks heaterless for about 2 hours which I guess isn't that long, but then I'll end up with some crappy subpar heater I don't really want.

Well, I overly heat my house and it warms my tank. Its like 80-85, warm for us. But I have happy fish and turtles. Can't make it to petstore until sat :(. But i'd rather have a higher gas bill than not have a house. Just an idea. Husband told me it wouldn't work. But I'm bullheaded and tried it anyways:D I rock!:headbang2

I believe according to the recall sheet I got in the mail....ALL Stealth and Stealth PRO Heaters 25Watts or greater are included in the recall.... I have 10 of these things in my tanks now and half of them are all 300W each!!....all pros and one stealth...and I need to figure out what to do.....thats a lot of cash for me to go out and but 10 new heaters to replace them and wait for UPG to send me my refund!! Damn!! but I do know this...I getting all EBO Jagers!!!

and on another note...yeah they worked great for a while but i have noticed them not keeping the tank temps where they should be!! 6 months and they are junk!!! Sure they will replace them...but I dont want to get another piece of Crap...that could blow up my tank!!! Especially with kids in the house!!!
