Everyone so interested in you getting more filtration:screwy: why not properly set up the filtration you've got? When you are rinsing your sponges your likely damaging your beneficial bio media. You'll need to add some bio media to your AC filters. The bio media you can just give a quick rinse in tank water while the sponges can get a good cleaning.

There is no reason why two AC110s should be able to filter your 75g with your aro. It will also adequately filter the 180g with the aro in it for now. because your aro grows and you add more fish, you should upgrade you filtration within a few months.

So when I rinse and clean the Sponges the first rinse comes out kinda black Would it affect the bacteria in the sponges if i rinse out the sponges really really well? I ring it and clean it pretty good sometimes cause I thought it was ok to do that. Like should I just rinse out the sponges a couple of times and treat it with care? instead being so aggressive rinsing the sponge out several times?

and yes I've asked the LFS about 2 AC110's and he said 2 is good enough for the 180g for 1 RTG.. with 2AC110's it would give my 180g a 5.5times turn over rate. I really dont want to spend anymore than i have too since I honestly didn't think about upgrading so soon but I just saw this 180g and it was just too good of a deal to pass on.

But Do you know why my tank water is cloudy though? is it Bacterial Bloom? and how would I make my water crystal clear again?

oh bTW i have 2 Mechanical filtration Sponges in my AC110's they both are packed with 2 sponges each. I dont think i can add anymore filtration sponges in there. Just want to clear up any misunderstandings if any.

basically ur killing all ur bacteria everytime u wash the sponge
thats ur issue
no wonder ur RTG had all those issues
You need to get bio media
and not ac110s are NOT enough for the 180, unless u have 6

Mm... Im not sure but everytime i rinse out the AC110's sponges I do water test next day and the water params. seem fine so are you saying thats what made my RTG skittish and jump? I tested the water params the water results came back normal... So I dont know... I still have no idae why my RTG suddenly went nuts cause I've had him for a couple of months and have been doing WC's the same way up to then and then all of a sudden my RTG jumps and freaks out becoming skittish for a while...

Well... I dont think i need 6 x AC110's for a 180g tank. thats too many i think cause the AC110's filters 500GPH so the math is 500 x 6 = 3000 / 180 = 16.7 times? I dont think i need nearly 17times the turn over for 1 RTG. Hmmm..... the LFS owner thats been in business for over 30 years says 2 is enough but if I really want 3 will be over doing it.

OH BTW The AC110's come with BIOMAX Inserts which are these ceramic like noodle pieces that go in a bag? Should I use those in the AC110's? I was told not to use them and substitute for a sponge instead....

If you have two sponges in each filter, use the top one for bio and only rinse in tank water. The bottom one you can wash thoroughly for mech. If the only fish your going to have in the 180g is the arowana the two AC110s will be more then adequate

I'm no aro expert but you don't need 17X turnover for 1 aro!! That is insane! You need BIO, someone will explain a bit more hopefully. I don't own AC's so idk what a good bio media for them unfortunately.

Awesome! thank you! I think I'm gonna do just that from now. Should I take out a Sponge from Both AC110's? and add the BIOMax pouches to both AC110s??

OK so the BIO Max's are in both AC110's now.

Once the new tank is in should i use both 250 watt heaters?? If So... should I have one heater on 82 and one set to 80?
