after some research on the good ole google. there seems to be very thin lines from telling these apart at young ages. i'm looking for a expert to show us in detail with pics the differences. including lowergrade zz's and such. :headbang2

anyone up for it? :clap :WHOA:

here is a decent pic i found on a pair of trimacs.

I would just assume that it is a FH, and not a pure trimac. Not that I can tell the difference between the two when they are young, just that you got it from a lfs. Unless it came from a reputable breeder, or was wildcaught, I'd just assume it FH.

yours is a flowerhorn

I spoke to Jeff Rapps not too long ago about Wild caught Trimacs. According to him no one has been collecting where trimacs live for a long time, I wanna say about 8 years. From everything I found for sale the impression I got was the only true Trimacs even available were from people who had bought from Jeff Rapps and then breed them. Not saying that is a fact but those are the only Trimacs I have found. I have purchased labeled Trimacs fro mLFS that have turned out to be FH's. Recently I purchased some from a new LFS who said he gets his fish from a local breeder and that they were Trimacs but hey are only about an inch so I can't tell yet. I also bought four from Jeff Rapps which are also still tiny but soon I should have some good comparison shots of true juvinile Trimacs. Rapps said he was going collecting for Trimacs in the summer of '08

Stilllearning at CJExotics just got some wilds in, they sold quick. I ended up with a couple and most of the trimacs do not come from rapps. most come from florida where they are bred. rapps stock also comes from here. Look around and there are people that have them for sale. My largest is a farm bred trimac that I ordered from fish farm at aquamojo. He got his from a breeder in florida

well this is news to me. The not collecting them in a long time was from Jeff Rapps. The assumption that most are from his stock is from me. I was unable to find any that did not say they were from Jeff Rapp's stock. Which could be because it seems like a lot of people like to brag about that. I would love to see some pics of your wildcaughts. I wish I would have known I would have been all over those :( Like the proverbial flys on *****

Wish I could put some pics up, the girlfriends sister borrowed the camera and somehow lost the usb cord:irked: I plan on getting a new camera in a couple weeks when I get some of that good ol tax money back. :headbang2 I'm sure most people that have a trimac get them rapps since most people see him as the real deal when it comes to cichlids. I see it on most sites, if it didn't come from rapps, its a cross between this fish and that fish. I am in no way knocking the guy, I have seen his stock list and would love to order from him sometime in the future.
