Two Green Terrors in one tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I can see why you're frustrating a lot of people. I, too, would suggest you slow down with your fish purchases because all of those fish aren't going to work in a 55 for long. Here is my story, which I hope might help. I started with a GT, JD, Texas and a Polleni in a 55, knowing I'd need a bigger tank, but assuming I'd have a while. They did fine for about five to six months. The Polleni outpaced everyone in terms of growth and started pounding on the Texas. I bought a 125 and moved them to the new tank. The Polleni still kept pounding on the Texas. Long story short, you can't count on anything, but definitely slow down so you can learn from experience at a gradual rate.

Actually Jewels have similar water requirements as CA/SA's.

Again although new and still very much learning I'm not new to forums and the OP reeks of a troll.....

I don't keep africans and so I was saying what the general rule is. I know people mix them but often the reason not to is the water requirements.

I'll do some experimenting and see how it works, if not the JD has to go, I got rid of my killer JD and bought a small one, and I think I'm going to keep the GT that is being picked on, I think he is less agressive the only prob is the mean one will eat and the other will not.

You might consider my suggestion also.

Does anyone remeber a user a while back named Connvict Breeder these two are almost to similar if you ask me.

But I would just keep
1)JD
1)FM
1)Jewel
and some dithers like giant dianos or some large tetras

^agreed i would not keep the gt and the jd together. like others said i would start small with convicts and if you can handle them then try out diff fish with bigger tanks

There have been copy cat posters and unconfermed reports of mysterious threds showing up from time to time but to my knowledge no conclusive evedance has been found to conferm any of it to be true.

He wants to keep a GT so let's just help him in organizing his tanks so he can keep the GT in it. He won't listen to people that suggests to keep fish that aren't what he likes. Well, actually he doesn't listen to anybody...:D

So anyway the 55 could work for a single adult FEMALE. Lucky for you the females of this species is just as colorful and vibrant as the males. Although the maximum size of a GT is about 12", it is very uncommon for a female to reach that size, you'll probably get her to grow to 8"-9" in your 55. If you provide enough hiding places, you could also throw in 1 or 2 convicts/ firemouths/jewel in there, should not be a breeding pair though. I suggest you get the RED jewel to compliment the GREEN terror, so it will always look like Christmas in your 55, your green terror being the Christmas tree and the jewel will be the red christmas balls LOL. You could also get a school of rosy barbs instead of jewels so you'll have more christmas balls.LOL

You also want to keep a JD, unfortunately I don't have experience in keeping this, but I know that the maximum size of a JD is 10". I don't know if this is true for both male and female, but I'm guessing that only males would reach that size, so the average female would max out at anywhere between 6"-8" (I think and hope so). And fortunately for you that is quite a small size and your other 35G will probably be good enough for one female JD and probably a dither, 1 con or 1 firemouth. But then again I don't have even a minute of experience in keeping JDs so I could be wrong. Hope somebody chimes in and help. Help!

I would agree with this although a bigger tank is still more desirable.

Not really. Males are much more colorful.

A JD, male or female, needs bigger than a 35G. They need to swim around you know.

A 36" tank is more gives enough space for an 6"-8" fish you know. It's just the same as giving a 12" fish a 4' foot tank.

Think about this you are giving your 2 GTs a 4' tank. I assume that 1 will probably reach 12" because I believe that you give them the best possible care, in that case, you are giving him a swimming space of 4x his body length from left to right and 1.5x body length from front to back of aquarium. On the other hand 8" of jd on a 36 would have 4.5x body length of swimming space left-right and 1.5x swimming space front-back. That's actually more relative space that you provide for your GT. And your raising 2 so your actually giving much less space than he will be giving his jd. And if you consider the height of the fish, he will have even more space since jds are more vertically compressed that a GT. You know.
