Two Green Terrors in one tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
my options i'd suggest:
1)firemouths
2) just that 1 gt in the 55g if its female (not ideal by far but i personally think its the best we're gonna get out of you)
3) get 20 or so exodons (you sound like you have a passion for aggressive fish)

or you could just put the 2 green terrors in at the 55.... because no doubt you'll have swapped them for something else within a month anyway....

^ i dont even think this is good advice but im just trying to get you to meet in the middle, before you stick a rtc in there too.... ^

I'm seeing two extremes in this thread. Obviously the original poster has too many fish and too few tanks, but a 55 is more than big enough for a green terror unless it's already a full 12 inches.

A 36" tank is more gives enough space for an 6"-8" fish you know. It's just the same as giving a 12" fish a 4' foot tank.

Think about this you are giving your 2 GTs a 4' tank. I assume that 1 will probably reach 12" because I believe that you give them the best possible care, in that case, you are giving him a swimming space of 4x his body length from left to right and 1.5x body length from front to back of aquarium. On the other hand 8" of jd on a 36 would have 4.5x body length of swimming space left-right and 1.5x swimming space front-back. That's actually more relative space that you provide for your GT. And your raising 2 so your actually giving much less space than he will be giving his jd. And if you consider the height of the fish, he will have even more space since jds are more vertically compressed that a GT. You know.

A full grown JD, IMO, is going to be miserable in a 30 or 35 gallon once full grown, which is the issue here.

I have plans to move my JD out of the tank eventually and so 90 gallons is more than adequate for my 2 GTs for quite a while, if not for the life of them as they take forever to grow and females stop growing after breeding.

Hey even I'm not that stupid to put a rtc in the 55g. I had a hybrid but I kept em for a week and got rid of him after I found out the max size, that was when I first started tho.

Do you guys remember why the whole thread was created? I simply asked if they would keep fighting. I got rid of the 2nd green terror today anyway.

What has worked well for me in my 55 is a mix of Jewels and Firemouths. I have 2 GTs and they are my favorites for having great personality. I hand feed them, can move them without a net, and they jump for their food (1 1/2" out of the water, working on higher) Jewels can be housed with CA/SA cichlids because their water requirements lean to softer water being river fish primarily.

Mine chase each other alot, but I have them in too small a tank. I have taken the beating you are here for my stock in a 75g.
2 GT
2 JD
3 Blood Parrot

Luckily I am not having too much aggression right now, but I am starting to see more each day. I got good advice from a lot of smarter people than I. My fish are going into a 240 soon.

So the short answer after a long winded post is Yes they will keep fighting/chasing each other. Cichlids are territorial and need their space.

ok, fair enough.

since you've got rid of one, that leaves 1 gt in the 55g. not ideal but a lot worse things have been done....

good luck, and plenty of water changes :)
