ugliest non-hybrid cichlid

Gymnogeophagaus balzanii ... nachual humps are just unattractive, and they have the most deformed one of the family.

The majority of people find Nuchal humps attractive. I didn't used to, but they've really grown on me. But I must agree, a deformed or oversized nuchal hump is just ugly and can effect the fish badly. Would you want to carry a 20lb. punkin on your head all the time?

Of course, these fish have natural nuchal humps... but when they're bred for even bigger ones... eww...

I really can't see how people find O's so ugly... maybe not attractive, but IMO definetly not ugly. I also have found people on here finding Parachromis, Umbies, and JD and other things ugly. How can you find something with amazing pealing and unique patterns ugly? I consider them the most beautiful of the cichlids...

I know I am totally in the wrong forum but i am having a hard time figuring this website out. I cannot find the introductions forum so I'm trying to go about it a different way. I have a 125 gallon tank and would like to put large fish in it and i would love some suggestions!!

Dang, I can't believe people hate Severums!

Anyways my vote goes to Parrot and Oscar.

1. Tilapia species (except maybe buttikoferi)
2. Red Devil and Midas
3. Trimac (Primarily because it reminds me of the Flower Horn which is not only ugly (esp due to the "kok") but also comes bundled with Feng Shui nonsense.)
4. Convicts
5. Oscars (Ranked "5th ugliest" IMO but only for the looks.. I know they are a fun fish to keep)

Parrot Cichlid

A LOT of people are mentioning "Parrot" or "Parrot Cichlids".

A few clarifications:

1. Blood Parrots (which is what I presume you're referring to) are Hybrids and hence not a subject of this thread.. They are, sans doubt, the ugliest fish EVAR!

2. Parrot Cichlids (Hoplarchus psittacus) sometimes called "True" Parrot Cichlids are freaking beautiful.. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbSN0G90D44


Also note: Flowerhorn is a (man made) Hybrid and EBJD are NOT man-made hybrids.
