Ulcer Disease/bacteria problem

Is it in the tank by itself? Do you have the ability to do a full tank water treatment?

If so, the trick will be nitrofurazone and kanamycin mix. Use at 2/1 ratio of the drugs. That tank would be about 4 grams nitro and 2 grams kana. Just add extra airstones and pull out any kind of chemical filtration you are running on the tank. It will probably take 2 weeks or so to see a turn around once it's this bad, but you can get it back. Just keep an eye on ammonia and do 50% water changes as needed. Redose the drugs for the amount of water you are adding (IE: if you do a 50% change add 2 grams/1 gram to make up what you took out.)

And i started marcyn plus treatment yesterday.it works for bacterial/fungal infections,open wounds and ulcers all three my ray shows.was going for kanaplex yesterday but found out we can't get up here anymore

And your ray might die before you track anything down.

If meds can't get through customs then I wouldn't have suggested it. BUT beings I KNOW it can, I think it would be worth trying.

I'd do it regardless if it was a motoro or BD, but then again I see things a little differently then most.

Hey Matt,

first thing that comes to mind is: shoot the poor thing and put it out of its misery. It sounds harsh but the ray is in such bad shape bro ...

On the other hand I understand wanting to save it, I would do the same if I thought there is a chance.

The discoloration along the edge indicates that the ray has been in really ****ty water, amonia and nitrite levels of the scale. The big hole in the side looks like a very bad heater burn to me. Once a ray is in such bad shape its immune system shuts down and thats why you are getting the sores and funges etc.

I really think it is cool that you force fed the ray, especially if the food stayed in the ray. I really admire the effort you put into keeping rays alive on the other hand I question your setup. Don't take this the wrong way because it would be a shame as i am really trying to help. You so often have problems with your rays and I think this takes away alot of the joy for you. Bad luck, bad descisions, lousy shippers all add to these problems. But I think that your setup is part of the problem too. Real good waterquality can make up for so much man, rays are so tough whan they are over 20cm and will overcome almost anything if your waterquality is perfect.

I'm telling you from experience, dude I have killed enough rays myself to learn a lesson or two. Tests are one thing, good water is another. One time I was having problems and all the tests came out great, but the rays were not well. I opened one of my filters and it was completely full of rotting shrimps, no measurable ammonia or nitrite....
Nowadays i never test my water, i only look at the rays, they are the best indicator for your waterquality.
Your rays often have problems so from the other side of the world I am telling you your setup is partly to blame. I would get that sorted out before buying anymore rays if I were you. It will make the hobby just so much more enjoyable.

Best advice I've seen on here this year.

I went through the same crap with fungus/bacteria. Do some digging, I made several threads.

I installed a drip system and am currently upgrading filters as the conclusion I came to was crappy water.

mark this rays condition has nothing to do with my setup.this ray was part of a scam deal i got ripped off mark.we will talk about that later.the ray should not be alive its my good water thats keeping it alive and all my extra efforts.i can gaurantee that if the water was bad for a bit and i didnt catch it the ray would have been dead a long time ago.I have confidience in keeping it alive no need to kill it.its starting to come around anyways.

most problems i should say if not all problem i have had were all caused by myself.over reacting has almost cost my rays a few times i must admit.but over the years i have learned doing nothing is the best thing sometimes unless theirs obvious evidence like this situation.

and i admit the tank this ray in is a crappy setup but its just something i whipped together with spare stuff i had around the house and a extra filter i had running on a tank for the last 2 years,it needs its own tank and needs to stay away from my other rays just incase this is a problem that spreads.but i do beleive the big wound on top maybe heater burn that got infected
