having your own transportation and not having to rely on the mercy of the bus schedules (not to mention most jobs these days require a drivers license) will do wonders for you
suck it up and get ANY JOB for now.

keep applying.

if you are eligible for whatever the american equivalent of jobseekers allowance is, then you may get grants for courses and possibly further education paid for by the state. maybe local colleges are offering free short courses in skills that may be valuable.
sometimes a course is enough experience to land that job and it will fill the gap between employment with something useful other than video games and getting fat on soda and crisps
