Union workers out there?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I only go to one steward at the job, that is willing to help me out,not saying the others may or may not help me out,but I have known him longer as a friend.I just don't agree with 100% of what the union is doing at my job, with having one of my workers going around the country, getting paid for it and still working for my company and not losing her seniority, pay, ect. In my opinion, you don't need unions now a days, majority of the union workers are too greedy and expect a 100 dollar raise with their jobs,I'm a School bus driver, which is a very dangerous job transporting children to school and back to their homes.I am not going to go on strike, just to ask for 29 dollars an hour raise, like the construction workers did here in Illinois for no apparent reason. They make enough already, what more do they want?I think for a job like that,I would demand better benefits just in case fatal accident happens,so that their families won't be left out on the street in the near future.

Not Belittling your job as a school bus driver, but as a commercial carpenter(i.e. Construction worker) my job is a wee bit more dangerous.
I don't see you falling off a building, getting electrocuted, getting crushed by falling objects, etc etc. Oh yeah "skilled trade" I spent 4 years in an apprenticeship you took a CDL test. Please don't compare your work conditions to mine.

I never compared it to your job,I am just stating that most construction workers complain and complain EVEN more about not being paid enough.Actually bus drivers die as well, one worker I have been working with for over a year, was whacked by a semi truck going over 55mph,LUCKILY he wasn't transporting children and he lived.I brought up a good point, that they should be asking for BETTER benefits, not 100 plus dollars an hour.

those of us in the building trades are paid an hourly wage which includes benefits, if we receive a $3/hr raise at most $1/hr shows up on our check the rest goes to benefits. Last year we got $3/hr and all of it went to benefits mostly healthcare.

Not trying to start a argument or assume my job is way more dangerous than anyone elses, things happen in life for a reason at any job.I just don't agree with 100% of what unions do anyways.you either have unions that take your money and wont do anything for you or you have unions that will fight for you for what the people are complaining about. Also I am sure there is more to it,then just those two things I mentioned

My job is far more dangerous than urs. ever run into a burning building? Im a proud union member. My union saved me from a over 7% paycut last year. Unions are still needed for fair treatment. Majority of union members are too greedy? Wth..... 29 dollar an hour raise? Over 100 dollars an hour? Face palm.

Proud IAFF member here.

Local Union #68 I.B.E.W We have had some troubles, but for the most part representation is good.

Currently working at Henderson Molybdenum Mine at 4000-5000 foot underground. Of coarse this is nothing compared to driving a school bus

Can you guys who seem to be in a worth while union do me a favor? Maybe you will get a straight answer.... Can you ask your stewards or VPs about my question? Help a Union brother out?
