Utah to use execution by firing squad on Friday

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My only comment would be, RLG has had 25 years to plead his case and live....that's right live. His victim's were not given that option. If anything this execution is 24 years past due.

Also in the Parole Board Hearing RLG acknowledged his guilt and took full responsibility for both crimes. It is not like they are taking the chance of executing a possibly innocent man. He has admitted to the crimes for which he was sentenced to death.

no that's not how i feel because its cheap and easy. those are just bonuses i think what he did was wrong and the action that should be taken is to execute him an eye for a eye people could learn their is actually consequences for their actions and we would have a better functioning society.

Actually killing as a deterrent has not been shown as effective. Texas loves the death penalty but has higher capital crimes than states without the death penalty if you compare similar crimes, ie First degree murders. But it will guarantee that killer will not kill again.

Execution are actually much more expensive (3-5 times) than life. Not sure if this is life without parole and life 33.5 years.

hmm well Texas is a very big state are we talking about the state as a whole or population and texas is a border state

Your missing the whole point. and killing is something that happens in this world. our crime rate would be much lower if people understood if i do this heres whats gonna happen to me.
That's almost the exact sentence I was about to type. But with different, more helpful parameters concerning consequences. We both want a better society. In yours, it's okay for people to be killed for killing, thereby doubling deaths. In mine, it is okay for people to be treated for what leads them to kill, thereby halving deaths. If you went int a junior high school and explained homicidal thinking to the students and gave out a card with a number they could call to GET HELP for the rage and murder fantasies playing out in their heads, they could be helped before anyone is hurt. It's okay to get help for almost any illness these days. But nobody is okay admitting they think about killing people, planning it, mentally choosing weapons, etc. If it were okay to talk about it, people could get help.

All these comments I'm seeing about what he was convicted of, what he plead to, etc. are beside the point. They are circumstantial. What's key here is the idea of not killing people who are confused, angry and distorted.

The state of Utah has already spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $750,000 just to incarcerate RLG for the last 25 years. It costs tax payers in the state of Utah on average $32,400 a year per incarcerated offender....that really adds up.

Rumor has it the state is spending $2-2.5 million to prepare for and execute RLG.

well i just turned 17 like a week ago so it wasn't long ago when i was in junior high and i don't think alot of kids want to kill other people and yes in my society it would be ok for people to get killed for killing but not doubling the death rate because people would think long and hard about pulling that trigger.

this law is held in Texas to because the "Death Penalty" which not guns its lethal injection now but its still good to make people think twice for doing a ridiculous thing..but i dont see how people are twisted to say its sweet how is it sweet its not sweet its just good that there doing this they did it back then and theyll do it now

What?

what a lively conversation lol. the guy has a violent history and has knowingly murderd twice. he knew he would be screwed if he was caught but didnt care. he deserves to die and hes past the point of return. once a murderer always a murderer. no therapy could take away the fact that hes capable of killing a human being with no regrets
