-I don’t think you should support the death penalty to seek revenge. I don’t think that’s right. I think the reason to support the death penalty is because it saves other people’s lives.

GEORGE W. BUSH, presidential debate, Oct. 17, 2000

Wow George Bush actually said something meaningful hehehe

self control and if thats not one of the values you posses on a grand scale of taking ones life you shouldnt be walking IMO.
Funny. I walked around with no self-control for over two decades. Then, through a lot of fortunate circumstances (people reaching out to help me) I began to understand that my actions affect others and so forth. Self control is not something innate for a lot of us. We have to consciously take stock of our thoughts and actions. And be slapped around a few times by role models we can respect (should they exist at all). I'll probably never have my act together enough to run a business or be a free agent of any sort, but I can be a reliable employee and stay out of trouble.

OK but you weren't walking around killing people i hope

I do know that if I were the killer, I'd want the chance, no matter how late it came.
But what if you were his next victim? I think this is really the big difference here. Most of us see ourselves as being on the victim's side of the fence not the killers. If you are a vet who has had to kill I can see where your view is coming from but those are not comparable.

If I were the killer it would honestly depend on the circumstances. There are only two reasons I can see taking a life, self defense (possibly preemptive) or a psychotic break. The first one is self evident it was self defense let me go. The second to be honest I'd prefer to be put down unless the system could 100% guarantee I would not do it again. Which as you can guess it can never do.

No, not that I remember. But I was hurting my family pretty badly and not even realizing it. Not realizing. I think that's a big turning point. If the killer can learn to weigh what he wants to do in the moment with how much it will cost, he can also learn to choose the better path.

see the killer isnt gonna learn i have heard once you kill one person its no problem to kill again that's what they say in the military

And once you learn not to...the same should apply. But it looks like we've whittled this down to about the finest point we can. If I have this right:
You feel that even if he can be helped, he should be killed anyway, because that's what everyone says and you feel it's easier and less expensive. Is this correct or am I wrong?
I feel that anyone is worth saving no matter the cost, but the person must be intensely conditioned and closely monitored for a very, very long time with full accountability for time and thoughts, etc. And that the killer can again become a productive member of society with minimal risk after effective rehab.

.

I will say correct. I think they should be toasted at this degree, killing, raping, etc.

Has anyone mentioned the fact that he chose to be killed by a firing squad??

Had 2 options, lethal injection or a 5 man firing squad.
If I'm not mistaken, the firing squad is given a mix of blank bullets and live rounds so they are not 100% sure who pulled the trigger
