uv sterilizer question

yea 7 mins and ill post it haha, is 1.1 kw a lot?

That's 1100w, I'm aiming for two sets of 11w, which adds up to 22w.

I think that's expensive to set up, maintain and in electricity bills, and total overkill. Way to much, I'd settle for a 36/40w at most in your tank.

Read this and the associated articles, they helped me a TON. Really, at the end of the day, it depends on what you want out of UV and how much you are willing to pay. You could get something thats pretty darn cheap and have it kill green water for you, or you could get something more expensive that can kill bacteria and even parasites.

I'm running the Vecton 600 on my 75 now, and I super recommend it to anyone who is thinking of going into UV. My fish have been looking a lot healthier and been more active ever since I added it, and my algae has been cut down significantly (it won't do anything for algae that is already in the tank such as green spot algae or BBA since those don't really move around, but it will kill them when they get into the water column).

But will uv prevent bba to form? I assume they start in life as free floating in the water.

I just calculated the the flow through my uv.

It turns out I'm pushing at a maximum 23.8 gallons per w, which should according to the article you linked me too be adequate for level 1 sterilization, provided the rest of the uv set up is high quality and properly designed. Considering it is an Eheim, I'm hoping this will be the case. Will check tomorrow when I receive it.

I don't know much about them, but.. 25w is good, means you can have a decent flow through there and still get level 1 sterilization,
