Why do the vent shots not look like the fish pictured? The vent shot fish looks all orange, with bright red fins...Maybe it was the light? in either case, Natalie, you have a female in all vent shots in this thread...;)

nice midas!

Okay thanks, that's what I figured. :( I'll probably be rehoming her soon-- I've always wanted a very large creamsicle male. Ah well...
I'll keep looking.

after extensive research lately im beleiving my uro is a female cause of the black in the fins and the tube being blunt and not pointed,
but as for these alternative body structure methods thought i would let tug have a go ;)
(i know the fins are all torn, i bought it like that. more of a challenge tug!)

Elacoon, you (still) have a male...Please tell us about this research....

on cichlid forum they shown me some pictures and said the females bars continue up into the top fin. whereas males have no dark colours or stripes atall in the top fin.
not only that the female pictured had identical colouration to mine whereas the male was alot brighter.
i refuse to believe its a male because the tube is just to thick and rounded. no way it could firtilise eggs with that

i just looked at it, its like a tube. its not pointed its just blunt and tubular.
the fish is kept alone so only ocasionaly it comes down and i agree on that pic it looks male but it dosnt look like it does in that pic in real life.
