Very Sick Flowerhorn! Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
here are what I did for my FH with HITH
- Do 50% WC (before doing this, make sure to check your water parameters are all good)
- Add 1 tablespoon of salt per 5 gal
- Provide more oxygen for the tank
- Raise temp to 89
- DO NOT feed him during treatment.

It was for my fish at very early stage of HITH, yours seems like worse. But anyhow, hope you can save him ! GL

My flowerhorn got fin rot when i moved my tank. Quick cure and temp up with a lil salt worked in two days

you should never add quick cure and salt together.

So I have aquarium salt, epsom salt, melafix, formalin 3, and Jungle brand Hole-N-Head treatment powder, and two packs of API General Cure. Are any combinations of those bad?

take it easy on the meds...keep temp high, pristine water, plenty of aeration and it should be fine . add epson salt only if you are sure that your fish has bloat.

This is what I would do if it was my fish:

I would look into getting a bigger tank- even if I had to borrow one..

but I would add salt enough to reach .03% (which is healing percentage for fish)- I would raise the tank to 86-87- and add aeration.

I would leave the tank dim, but not dark. (still want the fish to know day/night changes.

I would do this for 10 days, doing a water change every other day. Everyday changes may cause more stress.

Salt, can cure most fish diseases- it can be used for more than just bloat- It's what I use on all of my fish when they have issues.

Epsom salt is the salt I would use, as it has extra minerals added into it.

The 20 gallon is the only hospital tank I have for it. How would I measure the salinity in it?

Do water changes until you have changed 100% of the water.... Then you know that there is no salt present.

It's 1 cup for 100 gallons, so you would use 1/5 of a cup for 20 gallons.

Think really hard about that statement...

REALLY HARD

There will still be small traces of salt, but not enough to make a differences..

If he salts the tank- then does water changes until he reaches 20 gallons over lets say, a weeks time... the amount of salt will be very small.

I doubt he wants to buy a salinity meter, so that's what he will have to do unless he drains the tank and refills it 100% all at once.

Not gonna argue with you about it.
