Very Sick Flowerhorn! Help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well let me just say I'm glad to learn what I did once could have been catastrophic. I aways add a tablespoon for every 3 gal i replace when i take water out and if i fill up for evaporation i dont add salt. Just a little as a preventative. You are right that i didnt add enough salt to really make a difference, and i was lucky that i replaced that much water before adding meds.

Appreciate your (guys') input!

Update: Still the same, Fin Rot seems to be passive or at least not doing anymore damage. Still lying on its side. My concern now is it not eating. I have Sinking Cichlid Gold that it ate before and now it's not taking any food. Just simply looks at it as it sinks.

water quality is key ....make sure you pick up the uneaten food....

Update: Still signs of fin rot. Ate one sinking pellet today! That's a good start to a long road of recovery. :)

Update: Still has fin rot. Still laying on its side. Still not eating. Still pretty active as it lays; it breathes normally and moves fins actively. Adding quick cure (no salt) and doing 25% water changes every other day. Just gotta tackle the fin rot first before the Hexamita. This guy's a trooper!

HITH ..... Do you know what your girlfriend's dad used to feed him? What quality foods?

Goodluck with the fish, hope he recovers.

Not too sure, but I know he fed it freeze dried krill and some pellet brand.

Bravo to you sir for helping this fish out in it's time of need.
