Vontehillos

It is right for the catcher to label the fish from exactly where they caught it. Don't see it the bad way. I think that is quality info of the product. But it is not important for hobbyists to see them like they are so far apart and are something so different.

But I do understand in the middle of it that there's trust needed. And not everyone trusts everyone. So that's the drama we just cant avoid because ppl can not even tell if the fish is wild or not either.

Nothing stopping them from doing that. I think it's the "trend" right now. No big deal. Buyer always be aware. Ask questions. Educate yourself before you buy.

Good advice, however doing that very thing started a @&$%-storm of criticism directed at anyone who dared ask a question.

Look, Don said Vontehillo is a "small area just north of Chairel...near Tampico." A quick glance at the map shows Laguna la Vega Escondida to be pretty much right in that area. Don didn't locate Vontehillo near Lago Mayorazgo (roughly a mile north of Chairel), or Laguna la Vega Escondida (same distance to the northeast of Chairel). He said a "small area just north of Chairel." IMO, all of the carpintis from this area are basically the same fish.

Everyone can have an opinion on the validity or relevance of any race "labels." Even those who choose not to believe that every species needs to be split down the the point of H. carpintis sp. 'Tuesday at 3:45.'

I'm sure there's some weird parakeet forum out there where people are aguing about whether or not a certain bird with a little more blue on its wings is a different race of parakeet from the ones that were in the trees a few miles away. But just because that discussion occurs doesn't mean it makes much sense.

I'd ask regardless. Screw the controversy. It's all about learning.

And it is the same fish. Hericthys carpinte. It's just collected at a different location than a dozen other carpinte. Whether or not the area he collected is near or not near those areas....I have no idea. Apparently he gave Rusty specific details. He did give me more specifics about the area, but quite honestly I don't remember the minutiae of the conversation.

funny how people make such a big deal about specific collection point. I am sure when Rusty or Jeff put these fish on the market all the talking will subside.

Not all the hobbyist on this site want to know everything about therir fish. I mean really each fish wether it be dovii etc.... each has its own different collection point, a very good example would be Umbee's. Some just like the sure beauty, attitude, whatever me it may be of a particular fish and not have a care in the world where specifically it came from.

I think this all begs an immediate trip to Tampico, Mexico. Who's down? :naughty:

Fortunately, there was a real outcome to this discussion: we ultimately found out where the fish were (allegedly) collected...which is really, really close to where the other carpinte on the vendor's list was also (allegedly) collected. I gotta believe that not too many people knew that...

:iagree:spend the extra time enjoying the fish apposed to arguing with no real outcome in the end. ;)

to me it looks like this. if your into sunfish and you collect them ouf of lake erie and then go to lake ontario and they have a slight diiff pattern does not make them a diff fish. i dont know much about all of this but from what ive read i totally agree with chccc and dogofwar. these fish are all the same just dff collection point. so whoever is selling them needs to say just carpintis and where they were caught.

The one thing we should all take away from these various threads is that it is ok to ask questions. In fact you SHOULD ask questions. I like to know all there is to know about a fish I'm potentially buying.
