Georgia is a BIG U.S. ally and an important one in a region that isnt so pro-US. Georgia also has more troops in Iraq then any country other then the UK and US. It could get ugly. Did any one see the quick shot of Putin and Bush sitting next to each other in Bejing during the opening ceremonies? I wonder what they were talking about?!

Saakashvili has yesterday annouched to pull back his 2000 men from Iraq, so I don't think it's that big a US ally anymore..and also Saakashvili just gave a press conference that the wants a cease fire..

Your point being? Yea i read the article, Russia made the first move, and i don't understand how people can think Georgia started it...

In earlier news, Georgia's president admitted to starting it. South Ossetia has been independent since 1992, but Georgia wants it back.

Georgia is the third larges contributor of troops in Iraq (approx. 2000). They have been kissing our butt for years. Naturally our government is going to side with them :(

The conversation probably went like this: "Hey Vladimir, check out the rack on that one."

South Ossetia is by full rights an independent state and it is NOT part of Georgia. If Kosovo is Considered an independent state From Serbia then so is South Ossetia an independent state from Georgia. Russia will not even entertain the idea of South Ossetia being "georgia" and they have damn good reason and now precedent not to...

It is also a Russian ally state with mostly Russian citizens. Russia will not stand by idle while this state is being invaded and Russian citizens are being shelled and killed, Nor will it when Georgia makes it's next move on Abkhazia either...

Regardless of the status of Georgia in the eyes of Washington and NATO it is going to get it's butt handed to them if Russia really does get involved. (So far they really have not aside from providing some aircover, airfield denial and recon for South Ossetia's indigenous forces)

Saakashvili can now kiss his butt goodbye with this stupid move of his....

The whole story is rather confusing to be honest because it's all "he said she said". It had said in the earlier story I thought that georgia attacked first.. Must have read it wrong? Only two things matter to me though.

1.) Georgia a country smaller than south carolina against Russia.. :nilly: Who will win that one.. :screwy:

2.) U.S. needs to learn to keep their noses out of things that we have no business getting into. Condeming and even asking them to withdraw by ourselves with no other backing I think whether we have concern for georgia or not kinda scares me. U.S. goverment likes to bark too much when they should just be silent and carry a big stick. U.S. goverment always has to feel like they can fix everything.
Thank-you! Some-one agrees with me!

I mean we are already in Iraq,Iran, and other places in the middle east, and then the government wants to help Georgia? WTF

That's good to know. I guess you could say that they already had their butts handed to them. He needs to be careful what he wishes for. Maybe he should have checked the "Corrupt a Wish" thread before going on the offensive.

They may be world leaders; but after all, they are only men.

Past history and the present are two VERY different things! You might want to read up on the war Russia had with the Afghanis and the INTERNAL problems with their military that they COULD NOT solve! :D

Ummm. the last thing I need to do is read up on the Soviet afghan action...

And it was not a war with the Afghanis it was a security action against bands of armed thugs and jihadies intent on killing themselves. Neither the internal issues present During the 80's or all that billions of dollars sent to terrorists by the US and allies would have changed a thing in that the Soviet 40th army owned these dushman.. Anytime and anywhere they so wished.

This "war" was not lost.. They left and they left on their terms.

I highly suggest YOU read some of the real accounts of this conflict and not just spout out what is essentially a US media version of the action... Try talking with some Russian Afghan war vets, they tend to actually give you the real versions of history.

If anybody thinks the US ( or Nato, for that matter ) will get involved, then that anybody is wrong. Not even with oil, and its passage through to Turkey without going through russian territory, at stake.
