This just reminds me of a story I had heard once...
There was this big nation that had territories all over the world, for simplicity's sake, we'll call it England. They had this one territory that wanted to be freed.... real bad, we call them Americans. So they fought and fought over it, and I think we all know the end of that story.
Now let's update it. Ossetia is trying to keep/gain (depending on your thought process) it's independence from georgia. Russia is support this movement, and helping the Ossetians (or is it Ossetites?.... joke), much like the French did that in that doozy of a revolution we threw. So now if we think in these terms, would this be like America supporting the British government of the revolutionary period?
A small stretch I know, but oh how our role has change these past few hundred years.
