35% out the window, 35% back in through the hose.

No chemicals, no problems.

I would need to own stock in Seachem to have enough for all of the water changes I do.

:iagree: any1 who uses chems should 1st add them to a bucket full of water then leave to settle for a while before adding to your tank, do exactly what it says on the tin

I dont do water changes as such anymore, i have RO water running into my tank 24/7. the fresh water flows at about 100 litres a day. Water is always fresh and clean and fish are happy.

so how does that work? ive never heard of that before, sounds interesting
It was really easy, just drilled a hole in the bottom tank of my filter system( have a look), and connected a hosepipe from the tank to my main waste drain. So fresh water go into main tank, water level in bottom tank rises and tank water goes down the drain. Easy :D

ok so i have two buckets (5 gallon) and a siphon i siphon into one bucket then when it gets full i put end of siphon in the other bucket go dump in bath tub then keep switching off till about 50 percent of the water is eptied at this time i take the time to change the filter media if needed replinished the water with news water and were good to go do that every 2 weeks.

I now modified my water changes. Hook a 1" hose to my quiet one 6000 and put it out the window. Comes out like a fire house. Tank is drained in minutes. Hook garden hose to shower head, turn on and wait for 35-40min until filled back up. I got it easy:headbang2

siphon 10-20% atleast every other day keeps the levels perfect and the gravel sparkling. Siphon goes into buckets ,buckets go into sink. I then refill buckets and add dechlorinator BEFORE filling (I feel this helps it mix better because of the water turbulence while filling. I then add the water to the aquarium when its at correct temperature.

i use a tube to take 50% out and then freak out when i cant see my fish cuz he water is dirty and then use 5 gallon buckets and walk up stairs and and fill it up,brng it back down and repeat till its full..

I have an 8 gallon planted and a 10 gallon planted. I do weekly 25% - 30% water changes. I use a syphon to remove and a pitcher to fill back up. I make sure the water is a good temperature first. Then I add Aqua Plus.

I have a question.
Sometimes, when I am refilling my tanks, the water I pour in pushes the substrate and then the plants float up to the top and I have to replant them. How can I solve this problem?

when pouring in the water, pour it slowly over a plastic board or something.
that way, the water will spread out and pour more evenly instead of straight towards the plants.

back on subject.
currently i always have 6-8 5g water dispenser containers filled with tap water.
then i let it sit for at least 24hrs, but usually 7 days until my next water change. i siphon water with just the siphon tube on my back door the the yard, you can probably go to home depot and purchase a long 1/2inch wide vinyl tube.
i usually also just keep in place the tube to where how much water i want to be taken out so i can do something else and when i come back, the water had already been siphoned out to the level i want it to be. then i pour in all the aged water.

Or fill through a cullinder, sorry to derail slightly
