subermersbile pump to empty out 40-50%, then fill up from hose, adding dechlor as it fills

That is exactly what I do. Makes life so much easier. Just hook up the python for cleaning up the debris.

Used a gravel vac to siphon 40-50% into buckets, dump in nearby utili-tub. Now I've purchased a 50 foot python and noticed a serious problem.... My utili-tub doesn't drain faster than the tap fills it up. :WHOA:Hoping its just slightly clogged and i can fix it rather than too small of plumbing.

I have a question for anyone using the python . Lately Ive been doing water changes with gravel vacs started by a squeeze pump and then connected to a longer hose going to a drain. Then filling from a hose but now the water is too cold during winter. Im looking at buying a python today but my question is if anyone using it has trouble with it pumping water up a level of stairs when draining the tank?? I tried the other day when using my gravel cleaner hooked to 75 ft of pvc tubing to drain through the sink but the flow would get half way up the stairs then stop in a standstill. The water flows fast the way it is now but if it isnt enough to go up the stairs or up in into the sink. Im curious of wether the python would before buying

i live in a house on stilts with a timber floor. so i cut a small hatch in the floor put a couple hinges on it. fixed a garden hose fitting just below the floor. made a 2 inch siphon from PVC that just hooks on the side of my tank. drop it through the floor, takes 30% in under a minute from my 350L tank. fill it with short hose attached to the garden hose that is under the floor. on my 2 tanks i can do my water changes in a total of 5-10 minutes.

I had the same problem, basically the longer the hose the more drag it creates on the water flow. You could ( I know this is impossible) raise the height of the tank. Lower the exit end of your python, (throw it out in the back yard instead of putting it in the sink.) Shorten your hose. OR get a larger diameter hose. I went with 1" hose from HD and it works great and it was cheaper than the python. You can get the fittings at HD to connect to your sink for filling too.

Sorry about the double post, I forgot to quote. >rookie mistake<

all you need is a faucet adapter (the metal one is best), male adapter for the sink to go on 1/2" hose (of course, you'll need the tubing, too). I never use that stupid faucet pump thing anymore...just siphon and then hook it right up to the adapter to fill. You can also get a good garden hose (new, of course) and cut the male end off but then you can't see where it's clogged if it gets clogged up.

crap, i guess I'm diff cuz all my tanks are sand. I don't need one of those tube thingies

I dont think before I mentioned my tanks are in the basement. I dont think there is enough suction for the water to travel upwards in the hose?? There is a window about 2 ft above my tanks off to the side but even with the hose shortened out the window the water wouldnt flow out it would get only to a certain point and stop.
