On my 125 i have 2 emperor 400's and 1 eheim 2229. The water is clear but not the perfect crystal clear i want. The emperor are filled with carbon and filter pads. the eheim is filled with filter pads and bio balls. does anyone have any suggestions.

I use filter Floss in my Filters.

filter floss + big water changes. i have a 210g with a large sump/filter floss and an FX5. i do 50% water changes every week and the water is amazingly crystal clear.

sometimes i skip a week and i can start to see the water getting slightly cloudly from the excess particles. my experience is that big water changes help greatly to keep the water looking clear

I have 2 aquaclear powerhead in each back corner. i dont think circulation is the problem. Its weird for 2-4 days every couple of weeks it will get perfect then go back to how it is now

if all else fails, the BEST way to get crystal clear water is a diatom filter - hands down.

its basically a canister type filter that uses diatom powder to filter out the tiniest particles. you dont run these consantly. only a few hours a week or month. do a google search, im sure it can be better explained than what i did!!! lol

I'm surprised you aren't having problems using pads in the 2229. Does the wet/dry still function normally?
