Water is clear but not perfect

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm just going by what the owners' manual states. If the filter does not fill or empty properly, that is, the wet/dry function isn't working, it could be because of the type of media being used. The recommended media is either Ehfisubstrat or Ehfisubstrat Pro.

There is an Important Note (page 20) that states "you may use your wet/dry filter as a continuous-flow filter ... if you extract the (bio) media, temporarily store it in tank water, & fill the filter entirely with Ehfisynth or filter wadding AND close the breather pipe with a pipe cap." I would guess that this will bypass the wet/dry feature and the filter will operate as a 'normal' filter would.

I just use the 2229 as a bio ONLY filter and I also have an Eheim 2028 on this tank. You could add Ehfimech to the bottom tray, as someone suggested on your other thread, to 'collect' the incoming debris and use bio media in the other two baskets. I personally am fine with just using Substrat Pro in all three baskets. My 75G only has 1 adult male P. Auratus and 1 adult male N. Venustus as well as being heavily planted.

First off Is the tank established? Was it cycled correctly? Sometimes it might take a couple of days for the water clarity to become decent!

The tank is cycled and has been running since january when i had RBP'S in it. Althought i didt take the riverock substrate out and rinse in a kiddie pool. would this of got rid of any BB?

Minimum of 50% water changes on a weekly basis should do the trick... and don't forget to vacuum the gravel...

Have you heard of a poduct called Purigen by Seachem, you put in in your filter and i swear to you by the next day your water will be so clear you can drink it! :D
