I think bacteria has a lot to do with clear water as well. All of my tanks started out with less than perfectly clear water; no matter how much or type of filtration I used. At around the six month time frame, it clears on its own and the fish appear to be floating in air.

I agree but in the meantime ill try this purigen. Just went out and got some see what it does when i put it in tonight.

Here are a couple pictures of my tanks after the 6 month break in period.

The 75G has an XP3 and Whisper 60 HOB.

The 150G has an XP3 and XP4 with the standard filter pad for filtration.

Both tanks have about 5X filtration turnover.

All the canisters are filled with bio-media only (no charcoal, Purigen, etc). For bio-media I use: Matrix, CellPore, bio-stars, and cylinders.

howd you go with the purigen Dixon?

Its in, i will wait till tomorrow to post results. i dont know if i have it in the best location though. I might change it tomorrow. it is in my emperor 400's. it doesnt seem to be getting the best flow. All they store had was the bags so they dont really fit right. i need to find the jar of it and put it in the media container.

what you do is you get the bag, and you get the purigen in a jar and put it in the bag and just place it anywhere in your filters where it would get the most water flow..

how often are you feeding? 99.99% of the time, slightly murky water is caused by a bacterial bloom that results from excess nutrients via uneaten food and excess fish waste caused from overfeeding.

I feed once a day should i cut back

silversdragon how long should it take to clear it up a few hours and few days. i got 4 bags and each bag is good for 100 gal.

you should be sweet in a couple of days if not overnight, just make sure you place it in a high water flow area of your filter..
