Water Quality

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just an update on thos topic. So far its been a fail for me. Not saying its not worth trying but i havent gotten any results. Though i havent dosed (sugar, vodka, or bb) and dont plan to.

Purigen reactor = fail
I think the bioload was too high for the ammount of purigen along with the low gph required to get the beads to tumble

Water lettuce = fail bioload too high and the grow light caused all sorts of algae to grow in the sump

Im think i may try and use a crap load of putigen in the denitrate towers and see how it goes. Currently using it on the 150 gal in an ac110 attached to the sump and getting great results though the bioload on this tank is much less than the poly tank.

Oh yeah algae scrubber= fail

Sorry to hear all the experiments were a failure :( I swear if someone comes up with a system to dramatically reduce nitrates without all the hubub they'd make a killing

I enjoyed the projects so not really a waste. Id rather try and fail than not try at all haha

Denitrate in a 150 3lf reactor and a crap load of pothos weekly 50% wc, I'm at 20ppm on trates by wc day. Not too bad. Scrapped my project denitrater wasn't working out and don't think I'm gonna get much better then what ive got now.

Lol fair enough. I've pretty much resigned myself to a need to filter chloramine inline from our tap and set up a drip. Just need some cash flow first!

I also would live to do a drip but im worried about the sump pump (no drains ithe basements) say it fails then id flood my basement.

Yeah that would make me nervous too. I'd be overflowing out of the sump directly to the outside of the house. Guess that's the one perk of living below sea level lol

I have resesrch this more...me likey likey. Will tag you to another thread where the discussion came up.

I dont know much about drips but though the drains were always gravity fed im guessing you would use a float switch and pump to get the water out ?
