WC or CB

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Once again agree with jaws, proper filtration and a strong quarantine process will save you a lot of heartaches.

Be sure to research tank mates and be cautious with relative sizes especially with ljs. Polys are tough as nails (see jaws' new congicus), but continued stress and harassment will wear them down over time

Best thing i did was show restrain.... man its fun buying them but 1 tank turn into 3 or 4 or 5 fast.... then the fish start growing wc's are more frequent then its every other day... finally the hobby isnt fun anymore.

Dont fall into the grow out tank trap lol

I think polys are a lil more forgiving than ca/sa i feel like there bioload is more manageable but just a hunch....

Look at me only polys no other fish, like jaws said the mre the fish the more frequent wc, i only have my polys since march this year in a 75g now i end up upgrading to a 180g in 3 months, my plan was only to have sen atleast five, but addiction kicked in, fell in love with the ornate and bought 6, then i saw some endli, at first i didnt wanna buy a lower jaw cause of the reputation on aggression, but the more i read about polys the more i fell in the polys world.

This x10 lol. Right now I've got a 55g, and 20g full of livebearers that the wife and daughter love but I maintain. Beyond that I've got a 20L hospital/quarantine, a 40B grow out, and a 265 display tank. Let's just say there's a 3 hour block every sunday where the girls know I'm off limits!

Cannot WAIT to get the drip system setup on the 265, the time savings alone is worth the cost of the carbon blocks :P

if you had the option to pick wild caught or captive bred polypterus which would it be and why?
what is the difference?

For body shape I really like wild caught polys. I find many captive born have characteristics I dont like. I have a cb teugelsi and its pattern rocks and I like that a lot but the body looks shorter than a wc and its head is shaped a bit different, kind of stubby. If I could afford a wc I might consider replacing the cb but the pattern and color on mine is quite nice.

My other three polys are wild caught and I like the look and shape on all of them. The endli has a very sleek body and flat head. Absolutely my favorite poly I have. The downside to this wc? High aggression level and not as well banded or colored as many tank bred Ive seen.

No real complaints on my weeksii or koliba. Both nice wild caught.

I think its good that you have been asking all of these type of questions. I asked the same ones hen i got into polys (still have many more)
Research the hell out of them and try not to just impulse buy. Plan ahead too. You see the same story over and over on this site through out all the different sections a guy will cram his tank will fish things will be fine then fish start going belly up, getting sick turns into a huge headache and now he has to spend all his time in the health and diseases section
Okay thank you

The Keeper The Keeper i see some addiction going on, lolz

The pattern is not as bold or striking as in some captive born endli but it has a nice flat head and elongated body. Not short or stubby like some cb tend to be.
