Did you recently have a "smart" meter installed by your electric co.? Out here in CA our electric co. put them in, and now my bills are higher. Coincidence? I don't think so. Take the human aspect out and things go wonky!

it says it takes 1 KwH to light a 100w light bulb for 10hours... I only have one light bulb for each of my tanks. my 55g has a 20w bulb and my 150g's light bulb doesnt say... I think Im going to need to call them/ have my mom call them tomorrow and get this figured out
 
yeah right my parents no I wont move out lol I dont have anywhere to go. my parents are awesome but when it comes to something like this its my fault lol... and as I know the only meter thats been replaced was our water meter
 
How many watts are your heaters? Have you added/changed heaters recently? Was it an unusually cold month where you live that corresponds with the spike in your bill? It's not the filters you need to think about, it's the heaters.
 
How long has your tank been running? If its more than 2 months ask them why didn't the bill get bigger last month.
 
Better to spend your time on fish than bad habits IMO. Hope you work things out. Good luck.
 
I think its a whole 6.5 cents a KwH it said we used 1,147 KwH's this month, last month we used 330 KwHs.. there is something wrong with our meter or something on our electric companys end... we're probably the most anal family about using electricity nothing is on unless were in the room, we never leave anything on at night except for my fish tank stuff. Theres no way it jumped that high...
