Well my hobby might be ending soon :(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I dont have an Fx5 I wasnt paying that much for a power hungry filter lol

$78 for a 55g? Impossible, not a chance. End of story. They just need something to blame the cost on. Your fish tank is an easy target.

this sounds funny to me and i live in NY and we pay a good amount for electric. I had a 75, and 2 20's running and never heard a peep from my parents when i lived there. Your heater should only run a few times a day. I have a 300 watt on a 75 and i dont see it light up much. call the electric company...

man im 17 too and that is ridiculous i would hate if my parents would do that to me id have to get rid of all my fish and thats a big part of my life and a fun hobby

yeah I have a lot of money in these freaking tanks too and idk what the hell im going to do with the fish from my 55g there wont be room for everything in my 150g. My mom called the electric company and go figure the person doesnt know...

He knows but doesnt wanna come clean. You dont wanna talk to some nobody. Ask for the person in charge of the current shift for customer service. Your fam is getting taken so how. This happens alot and most people dont notice and sometimes dont wanna deal with calling. Even a heavily filtered and heated 55 should cost less than $20 to run

my 55G isnt even like that much lol i got a emp 400 and a heater thats all its not your tank

It was probably from your other thread where you had a 90 degree tank... you seem to have alot of problems

that was my 150g and it was only that hot for a few hours...

if your tank is not a planted tank you might as well cut down on the lighting, especially if you are not even there to appreciate the tanks. another thing that you can obviously do is turn down the tank temperature to a minimal safety level. I have also known people to insulate the back and sides of the tanks to keep the heat loss down.

there are also other costly options that would help you save energy such as switching to LED lighting but that may cost you way too much initially.

like others have said, even with your equipment you are probably not responsible for the energy spike, but you can always take the steps that I have recommended and tell your parents about them, im sure they'd appeciate your effort to help them save money.
