Depending on what your stock is, you might even want to just ditch the filter, and start running a sponge filter.

Do huge 75% + h2o changes a week, and maybe run a powerhead.

I dont think your fish tank is the only thing to blame though...someone has been leaving the computer on or something.

we dont leave anything on as I said everything light wise that we has is solar powered, and every light buld we have is the energy efficient ones. I have cichlids and eels in my 55g i cant run a sponge filter, and Im not going to waist that much water, thats the only thing that I absolutly hate about fish keeping is how much water we just dump out a week...

I have my heater set a 80 in my 150 and the temp says 81 yet it still hasnt shut off.... I think im going to be getting some new heaters tomorrow on my way home from putting my summer wheels on...

I just set the heater to 78 and it still hasnt turned off... I think there 300w heaters are wacked, btw I just put these back in to see if theyd work or not again, they do they just dont turn off.

If the heater isn't shutting off, it's because it's not large enough to heat the tank. If the back of the tank is open, one 300 watt may not be enough, hence it running all the time.

I had a little heater ment for up to 60 gallons and it was turning off.. I just lowered the temp on the heater to 70 and the temp of the tank is at 81. and its still on..... I had two of these set at 78 thats when my tank got to almost 100 because they wont turn off...
