So basically, any company needs one or more of us....

I worked for a 10 billion dollar bank, we had no economist............

So if everybody needs one, why are you having problems? You may just think there is a demand for economists, I have never seen it.

Only thing a Master's degree would get you would be a teaching job.

Just being honest.

two things: 1, there is absolutely no way you worked for a bank that did not have an economist. No way in hell.

2, I am having problems because I did not know where/how to look for jobs. I have never done this before.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Just finished talking to my friend, who has a lower GPA then me, but has too many offers too choose from. What gives? Same school, same degree, same graduation date, LOWER GPA, yet more offers?

Well, apparently we have this thing called careers for terps, and we also have job fairs. My degree is SMOKING hot right now. I just need to go to the career fairs. I am heading to the next one with him, its in november!

Oh, and btw, you need waaaaaaay higher than Masters to become an economics professor.

Also, please don't take my comments negatively....

Reverse, if I may, how old are you? Because now, college is the new high school. Everyone goes. Which is why you need to continue past a 4 year...

I was the corporate investigator, I reported to to the COO of the bank. We had no economist, we may have outsourced for economic reports but we had no economist. And it was not in Hell it was in Texas....................

Many people down here in South Texas have no college degree, I have a 4 year BA in Business Administration, started out at a bank right after school, went into LE, then back into banking as an investigator.

You live in a college enviroment, you get away from there you find many people have no college at all.

I'm not going to argue this with you....No real point. A bank would be foolish to attempt to operate without an economist. How would you set your interest rates? How do you know when to buy and sell bonds? How do you know what stocks to invest in? There is an economist at your bank. There is no way it got to be a "10 billion dollar bank" without one.

It seems we have to agree to disagree ;)

I am trying to stay in this area though....Which is why I believe I am having so much trouble finding a decent job.

I work now for a 67 million dollar credit union, small, slower paced...............guess what no economist. We set our rates from a subscription service called Bankrate. It shows you the local financial institutions and their rates. We stay compettive, we have an ALCO meeting every other Thursday we only buy CDs or Government agencies. None of the sub prime derivatives for us.

Good luck with your job hunt.
