What do you believe is cruelty or abuse when it comes to fish?

Its not just about the pain, you take away its way of transportation, its like ripping a dogs back legs off, because it can still move, and its easier to make tame, because it dosnt escape... Its straight up animal abuse, and the worst kind.
Wow lets go back to the parrots one last time how many pet parrots are wild caught? If the answer is none then how will these birds ever miss being able to fly around for miles. Or if they were clipped as a small parrot before it could ever fly miss flying if it was clipped in that manner. How many of you miss walking on the moon none because you never have. A lot of birds that are pets are merely clipped by snipping a few flight feathers so at most 1 year flightless. Don't lay into me now about this statement as I have had diabetes since I was 10 years old so I do understand what missing a normal life is.
The only point I am trying to make is that we are all being brain washed by animal rights groups and false propaganda they spread. Here is some proof I mentioned our family had a bomb threat uttered against us and not one of you cared. All you could do was talk about a poor parrot having its wings clipped. Why would we blow off a person suffering and concentrate on an animal because as we all know now animals and people are equal. Why because PETA and their friends told us so.
Angel I never once said you were inhumane for letting your parrot fly around your house. In fact I think that is ok but by your own words though that would be cruel because it can not fly the miles it would in the wild. It is not cruel though because that is what your bird knows and loves to do. It would be crazy though to sit there and say oh how it misses the Amazon rain forest.
Now as I said before let us educate people and hobbyists like our selves on how to care for our pets. Not sit here and agree with PETA and say what is cruel or give them more ideas of what is cruel. The number of people who go out and get pets just to be cruel is very minute.

Declawing a cat is a major surgery clipping a birds wing is merely cutting a couple of feathers.
I hope your ok after the bomb thread, I know I would have been terrified. I see your point, but I still have to disagree, if your parrot is in a little cage, it didn't get too move at all. It must be bored to death, and from what I've read their very intelligent.

Ok first of all, I'm not dumb, I know clipping a bird isn't painful, but the bird also isn't getting the exercise and stimulation it needs when it's wings are clipped. Do you really think hopping from perch to perch in a cage is the same as flying every day? It honestly pisses me off that you're arguing with me, because I know what I'm talking about, I'm an experienced parrot handler AND I've done a multitude of parrot rescues/rehabilitations/rehomes. I've seen first hand parrots that have plucked all their feathers off, and some that have even resorted to mutilating their own skin because they weren't given proper mental and physical enrichment. It's freaking basic parrot care, it's not some PETA-esque idea.
Also, Spiff, I can see how you would think that since you don't have much bird experience but I've never had to chase a bird around the house to get it in a cage. The vast majority of parrots know the "Step up" command, and those that don't (in the case of when I had to rescue birds who were scared of humans), simply putting a few favorite treats in the cage was enough to lure them back in.
Wild Bill, you really need a reality check. There is a HUGE difference between concerned and loving pet owners, and militant/extremist animal groups. That's like comparing regular Muslims to Islamic extremists. Tell you what, you can go ahead and clip your bird, tattoo, poke, and pierce your fish, declaw your cat, etc. But don't you dare tell me I'm in the wrong for not mutilating my animals and attempting to change their natural behaviors. When we take in a pet it is OUR responsibility to ensure their well being, not our own selfish desires.

Almost bought a bird one time.. after having the coolest experience interacting with an African gray in a pet store.. But changed my mind after researching their requirements. I'll stick with animals that require only the most minimal input.. which for me is cats and fish.
Spiff, I absolutely love African Grey's! Beautiful and intelligent creatures for sure. 
I think it's great you research animals before getting them though, a lot of people don't do this and end up keeping animals they can't/don't want to handle.

You don't want an animal that might shred your sofa, don't get a cat.

Which is why responsible people that keep parrots keep them in really big cages. Same with fish. Irresponsible people keep fish/birds in "cages" too small for them.
Any responsible parrot owner knows that you can't keep the parrot caged up 24/7 and you need to interact with it, A LOT. If you talk to your parrot and take it around the house with you...pretty much give it a lot of attention, the bird will thrive. Parrots in homes need attention more that the ability to fly. And anyone that had owned a parrot will tell you this. I agree that it sucks to keep the wings clipped. But if you have something big like a grey or amazon then the birds wings need to be clipped or it may hurt itself flying around your house. I personally would never keep a large parrot unless I built an aviary. My Quakers wings are not clipped. But that bird is tiny and has no problem navigating around the house.
