what do you feed your bichirs, these days?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 2 bichir are 7-8 inches long (one ornate and one longfin senegal). They get bloodworms and mysis shrimp mixed together, and if my senegal is in the mood for it he gets krill. My ornate spits krill out, so no soup for him. I also keep guppies and ghost shrimp in the tank. (They share space with a silver arowana and a motoro stingray)

Shrimp, scallops, fish filets, and Aqueon bottom feeder tablets.

Feed my mainly Hikari and, NLS.
It's been awhile but, sometimes shrimp.
Looking breeding guppies in a 6.6 long I have as snacks.

I feed mine:
Massivore pallets
Lance fish
Hake
crickets
meal worms
prawns
and from today catfish(caught it yesterday) chunks

As of today you can add large mouth bass to the above list:naughty:

I started feeding mine freeze dried krill and now they ignore the hikari carnivore pellets:irked:

Wish it was easier to sink the krill:\ I gotta figure out something else they'll eat now:irked:

I've typically used Kabob sticks and stick a piece of dried krill onto one end and I feed my Bichirs that way. Though my smallest and most active Bichir as well as Ropefish easily seek out the stuff if they float, my other two larger ones are a bit lazier and I have to feed them manually. Takes a little extra effort but its fun to see them eat that way.

I also feed my guys the typical feeder shrimp and bloodworms. I'm thinking of doing Crickets also.
