Did you know Canada burned down the original White House back in the day?

BTW
If anyone would bother to actually check their facts before they start acting like they know everything (I am not referring to ty1089 or Semperfish) they would see that:
America does refer to the United States of America.
American does refer to a citizen of the United States of America.

At least that's what it says in my Canadian dictionary.

But it was nice meeting you all.

Especially you Semperfish.
I very much like how you carry yourself. And how you explain things truthfully, without any BS.

Freedom of Expression

goes hand in hand with

Freedom to Check the Facts

of whatever BS some one is feeding you.

you guys get too worked up over silly labels. you are whatever country you were born in. hence, i was born in the USA, so im American. you were born in Canada, you're Canadian. Mexico, Mexican.

really isnt that hard when you think about it. if somebody in another country on this side of the world gets butt hurt that we call ourselves American, then get your butt into the USA and become a citizen so you can call yourself American too. simple, and no arguing necessary

 time to go have a beer

But while America CAN mean U.S.A it does not ALWAYS mean U.S.A.
And the above is exactly the disrespectful "U.S.A is ALL" attitude I was talking about.
That attitude is real. And some (SOME) of you should watch your mouth.
But I'm bored with this, so have a nice day.

This is also the first time you are not giving attitude,
OK Mr. Snottypants?

It goes both ways you know.
I do not understand why you demand or expect respect when, in the past, you have not shown any to me.

Reread your posts, your words, your tone, as if I was sending that attitude to you.
It goes both ways.
And 90% of it is coming from you.
That is honest and true.

See Yoshi?

I can take a little joke .

Can you?

Thought we were done throwing shots. Apparently not.

Spank, it is you who has a twisted view of things. It is you who continuously explains his point in such a way as to try to humiliate the other person. Whether or not you see it, its there. Grow up.

Im out of this thread. I can't stand people like you.

Go ahead Spank. Right some witty response. (See? I am even helping you! I said right instead of write) Make yourself feel better. It ain't worth my time.

Witty?
I'm not very good at jokes.

You (again) miss the most obvious thing because you are too busy trying your best to be insulted and fight and cry and take your ball home because...well you are who you are.

The point is...
pfff maybe someone else can explain it to you.

OK since most won't even bother trying to explain obvious things to you because you can't read past the first line of any post, I'll do my best.

Our debate is over.
It never existed.
This thread is about freedoms in America.

Freedom of Speech

includes

Freedom to Lie

Soooo.....

CHECK THE FACTS!

I edited the dictionary excerpts to move informal and formal around.
And included all the unnecessary stuff so it would look legit and you wouldn't bother looking for yourself.
Details are important.
Facts are Facts.
Check them!
How else can you know when you are being lied to?
By me?
By your government?
I was lying since my first response to Yoshi.
How long has your government been lying to you?

And I spoke passionately and convincingly at length to seem as I believed it and was believable.
Maybe not everyone agreed with me.
But I bet they believed that I at least believed it.
I bet no one thought I was just flat out lying.
What does Freedom mean?
Don't trust anyone!
Watch your back.
Guard your Freedom!
Or some slick tonged politician who speaks passionately about bogus facts will take your freedom from you.
You will be easily convinced to hand those Freedoms away.

Giving an opinion like "To me America means Rock&Roll and Bubble Gum" is fine. It's just an opinion.

If some one, anyone starts telling you how the world is, how you are, what something means, what you should do, how you should think..

CHECK THE FACTS!

Ok, I'm not going to quote again because there is just too much.

On the propoganda point. You made your first point about how our country puts it out (and so does yours) and that our people fall for our country's propoganda (and so do your citizens). Well, I would tend to agree with that notion as a whole, but I do not agree to the magnitude of American citizens that buy into it as you think. But, you see I did not say to you, PROVIDE ME WITH EVIDENCE OF THIS PROPOGANDA AND HOW MANY PEOPLE BUY INTO IT!!!!! Sorry for the caps but, for one it would be hard to pull out exactly what is propoganda from one's gov. (or extremely easy depending on viewpoint) but it would be impossible to prove who buys into it, at what rate, and to what degree. So, I ask you to give me that evidence. I'm interested to see how you could provide that. I'm guessing that you won't be able to, and this will further prove my point that wether you like it or not a lot of this debate is based on opinion and not fact. While there certainly is no shortage of facts you put on these pages, I'm not sure they really help your point in a debate about "who should call themselves what" because in a debate about freedom it is inherently irrelevant because people have the freedom to call themselves whatever they want.

Are facts important when we are talking about the definition of the name of your country?

mmmm YES!

I cited my source.
The same word processor dictionary that is on your computer.
Only a mouse click away.
Did you check?

This debate was imposable for me to win.
Because I was forced to chose an unwindable topic, changing the name of your country.
But what if we were talking about how you should vote on a questionable issue?
Like "Should we let government erode our freedoms to protect us from a threat?"
You better know what is being eroded.
You better know if that threat is real at all and how serious or irrelevant.
You'd better know what you are voting for.

You better check the facts.

But don't feel bad Yoshi.
This thread has been viewed 2184 times so far.
Not one person called me out on an obvious bold faced lie.
Scary.

Freedom is being able to worship without prejudice, being able to walk down the street with your head held high along with the rest of the people who want to live life the way they want to. Free of persecution because of ones skin color or ethnicity. Free is being able to drive that SUV down the street sucking up gallons and gallons of gas, hey its your money you pay for it, who are we to say your wrong? free is being able to wake up every morning and know that you can go walk down the street wearing whatever you want and not be punished for showing some skin. freedom is built into this country through the constituion and the bill of rights. there are some people out there that are systematically tearing our country apart. through using the term "Politically Correct" we are losing our identity and becoming a country that bows to the whims of international pressure. I sadly feel that our country is becoming weaker because of this and its people are blinded by the news media talking about how hilary and obama this and mccain that and cannot see that the fight for our peoples freedoms do not come from bowing to the many who would like to see our country diminish in international power and become pacifists but from the too few who actually stand up and do something about it, we are the free the proud and the brave. we have been for the better part of 300 years and we will continue to be in the future. it doesnt matter what the dems say, it doesnt matter what kooks like osama and ajenamenajad say we are here to stay.

this is my opinion and you may or not agree but i believe in my country enough to fight its battles and that is why im here in iraq again. As much as it sucks here, im happy i am here fighting for our peoples rights to whine about how much america sucks

I'm still waiting for the facts on how many people are fooled by propoganda, but then again going by your last few posts it wouldn't matter if you did post them.

It is unfortunate how this has turned out especially with the recent revelations, but this actually speaks to my point about how whether you want to admit it or not, in this kind of debate your "facts" don't really matter. You can post all the "facts" you want about what the word America means but at the end of the day, it is still the term that the people of the US use to identify themselves, and it's not going to change, and really there is no reason to change it just because you don't like it. But see thats just it, this debate rests on the fact that you don't like it. Thats your opinion. So, no matter what you put down on these pages, it's your opinions vs. others, you can't declare a victor. Of course there is such a thing as doing it with class and gaining the respect of your opponent, but I don't really think thats even an issue, and thats too bad.
