WHAT IS IT????????????

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
NOT a white sucker. Whiter suckers have smaller scales and they do not have a red tint to the fins, also they aren't as squat.... Its a river Redhorse
aka Northern Hogsucker

There is a waterfall stream near my house where you can grab suckers with your hands when it is fuller.

Which one? Those are two entirely different species (different genera even).

I have to disagree with both of those.
It lacks the overall body pattern and color of the Northern Hogsucker, not to mention the different mouth shape:

and the scales become smaller near the head as one would expect in a white sucker. The caudal fin is not red enough to be one of the red-tailed redhorse species either. The red tinge is a common variation sometimes attributed to poor water quality as in this picture I found of a white sucker:

"Northern redhorse" is an old common name for the shorthead redhorse, but that is definitely not the species this thread is about.
