What is one thoughts on this?

If you decide to "do-it-yourself", PLEASE, play caution to the wind.
Hydro-floric acid is often used (or derivitives there of).
This acid, if splashed upon you or if you accidently expose yourself with a large splash, can bind to the free calcium in your blood stream and effectively put you into cardiac arrest.
Now this is not as implausible as some may think. Yes it would take a significant physical exposure.....just be careful Brother. Wear proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and use in a very well ventilated area.
POST PICS PLEASE.
Respectfully, FireMedic.

I have seen a etched tank and it looked really nice! To bad they etched fancy goldfish and plants across it. I think as long as you get a nice design together you will have a sweet tank!
BTW it will not weaken your tank.

Appreciate the info------I will use the proper gear to do this for sure--I'm also a welder so I am familar with dangerous materials....

I'll posts pics once this is done-----Gonna do it to my 20 L to start with I guess.....And go from there....

i have seen these kinda of tanks , well they sell like hot cakes at the lfs but i actually think they look silly, but hey! it all depends on the design you choose to etch you can further get it staian glass painted also choose a design that you won't get bored soon looking at.

as a test get some cheap glass and etch a line with some curves down the middle. Apply pressure till it breaks. If it breaks down your etch than you know the etching created a weak point.
