Rift lake: Red zebra. It has the perfect balance of color, intelligence, and aggression.
Riverine: Kribensis. If Africa had an equivalent to the convict cichlid they are it.

Probably fossorochromis rostratus or any nimbochromis.
The Emporer Cichlid is my favorite.
Emperor cichlid is extremely uncommon in my part of the world. Too bad.
My favorite Rift Lake Cichlid is the Nimbochromis Fusco.
It changes every time I look at the tank, but it is probably either my Otopharnyx Tetrastigma or Protomelas Fenestratus. They are both young yet, but coming along beautifully.
