What makes a leopoldi a black diamond variant?

Here's Dotti she is about 8" disk diameter, I seen other pics of the Black Diamond variants and thought she might fall into that catagory and hope she is for future breeding posibilitys. Thanks for everones input.

shes nice but i would still class as normal leo
 
TK that is one beautiful Ray you got rid of. Wish I had the time to set up another big tank just for rays. Did you manage to sell your Tig?

The only way you can determin a black daimond is indeed from it's belly. The picture T1KARMANN posted is the only way to determin if you have a BlackDaimond.

As far as I am aware BD rays were so named by the fishermen in Brazil strictly for their superficial upper body markings, and this is the only variation from other Leos and is only skin deep.

What Frank stated is indeed correct. To determine whether is the ray a BD, we will have to check on the bottom of it.

As for yours, it is a normal leo. No matter how it develope later in its adulthood, it will not grow up to look or resemble a leo.
