First off, the un-PC version for Japanese is what I was referring to, used by Miguel not once, but 3 times in 2 posts. Just giving advanced warning since it seems to be a sensitive subject per other threads.

First, english is not my first language, so although not an excuse, I would ask for some degree of leeway, ok? I am aware of the "uncorrectness" of the word I used ( although I will never figure out your guys stress with words and expressions ).

As far as I know, and this could be wrong, but it does peice together. In Japan, they have a love of monster fish, but because most parts of Japan are so jammed packed, alot of the residents are unable to have very large tanks because of space restrictions. So they pack a bunch of large fish into a smaller tank, and just up the filtration and water changes to even it out, sort've.

This is one of my favourite examples:

This is not a Japanese style tank.

This is the tank of a Japanese savage, as there are countless other ( and worse ) savages in Portgal, the Us, the Uk, you name it.....

It's possible to keep a fish healthy through great filtration, water changes, etc. But IMO it's still cruel to pack a ton if fish in a small space.
It's like keeping 3 dogs in a closet their entire life.

And I don't buy the whole "To each his own" and "It's his fish, he can do what he wants" argument. Using that logic I can get a cat and raise it in a cardboard box because it's "my" cat to do whatever I want with.

All these "it takes knowledge and commitment" arguments aren't valid either. Of course it takes knowledge and commitment to keep a ton of cramped fish alive. That's not the point. It's a moral issue not a technical one.

Just my .02

Now the original question...

How do people with Japenese style tanks maintain them? Is it really just crazy filteration and water changes, or is there more to it than that?

Can we get any technical advice from someone who has at this moment this style of tank in Japan and their viewpoint Please.

No more opinions, beliefs or statements please, this is no longer, nor ever was a debate.

Thank You,

Dr Joe

Dr. Joe, if you want no opinions, beliefs or statements, why on earth do you ask for the Japanese's "viewpoint"??? is that a term for a technical advice/ description?:D

the moderators are on a rampage. I've seen like 6 threads shut down in 2 days.

Not on a rampage but this thread did stray away from it's original question. And I think that was Dr. Joe's intent. (Wait that's a thought and/or a belief) :)

yeah but that statment is just your opinion.,,,,, eeerr i belive

So automatic water changers and enormous sumps basically? Obviously I don't have to knowledge or experience to try a Japenese style tank anytime soon, I was just curious as to why they work. I imagine the water changes would have to be many times the tank's volume per week?
