what to stock in a 1 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
There are some extremely small species of fish that come up for sale now and again. Some don't even reach 0.5". They are tiny and virtually clear. I have seen some for sale a couple of times listed as 'one of the smallest fish in the world'. Don't know the species though if I see them again I'll post it up, problem would be keeping any sort of even temp in a tank that small!

Some cyprinids and characins dont even reach 1". Some even top out a .75". Why not invest in purchasing something like that? Or just do a few shrimp and algae.

Room temp!

Seriously, I have kept several 1 to 1 1/2 gallon tanks as bathroom nightlights. A pair of pygmy sunnies and a few ghost shrimp will work, as will 3-4 glo-lights or neons and a few shrimp. Small turbosnails or pond snails can be added or scuds instead of snails. Or you could just grow tadpole shrimp. The main thing is to watch your water levels and do a partial water change about twice a week. I even kept candiru in a 1 gallon pickle jar for over a year once.

It can be done with fish, just make sure they are tiny ones and dont get many. :D

I have a 4 gal tank with 8 male guppys and a small BN pleco living quite happily. Just an undegravel filter and 25% water changes each week.

Same stocking rate you could put 2 guppies and a snail in a one gal.

Not exactly MFK stuff, but as long as you look after them properly they will be fine.

Heck you could probably put a pair of guppys or white cloud minnows in there and have them spawn. Of course that would instantly overstock the tank :nilly:

Cheers

So, what have you shosen to plant in it.

I would say either a crayfish.
Or plant it, and put like 3 tetras in there.
