WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST FISH?

I started with a Giant Gourami, 24 years ago, when I was 7 years old.
Those fish were cheap in my country before. And now still cheap. I remember I bought him for around 5 cents USD. Now it would cost around 4 USD for an 8 inches Albino Giant Gourami.
 
My first personal fish was a Betta when I was around 9-10 but my family had kept a fish tank before when I was younger than that. I've always had friends with tanks, been around the hobby most of my life but my first personal fish tank is the one I've recently set up with the fish listed in my sig:D


I like your story Oddball, that reminds me a lot of how my grandfather was on my mothers side. Took me fishing a lot when I didn't even really know what we were doing other than every once in a while he'd reel my rod in and 'I had caught a fish!' but in reality he had reeled it in for me while I was trying to catch minnows and crawdad.

The first fish I bought was a Spotted Raph Cat...and I still have him...13 years later!!!
 
we had goldfish at home when i was around 16 and i did not get back into fish until around 12 years later in 1998/9, thats when i bought my own first fish.
they were 4 red belly piranha that came with a full set up i bought from someone, i planned on getting rid of the piranha but kinda liked them and stuck with piranha of all kinds until 2003 and got into oddballs.
 
I was 5 i had a 10G in my room...with a couple of mollies that breed obviously.. and a raphael cat!
 
Just remembered, back in 5th grade we had a classroom fish tank. I took home the Raphael Cat at the end of the year. Kept him in a jar with an airstone:nilly: Damn thing lived for 6 years!!!
 
mine was an albino channel catfish about a year ago. Got him at 2 inches and now hes about 7. Happy and sad at the same time. lol. Love him.
 
MY first fish was a wild type betta that I got from Thailand when I went to go visit family. I was just a kid (7 years old) so I guess they let me on the plane with my betta. But I think my Dad tried getting me interested in fish by having some Goldfish in a bowl when I was 3 or 4.
